Pardon the advice, but if your head hit the ground throw the helmet away and get a new one. Bike helmets are like motorcycle helmets - if you're head's in it when it impacts and you survived it did it's job and it's done. Advice over.

We have had a LOT of nice weather here in South Florida the last week, but 'other issues' kept me in the car Mon-Tues. Ride in yesterday was a good one, on the way home, at the intersection where the bike lane on Hwy 441 starts, a Jackwagon in a new Ram pickup 'juked' forward just as I was entering the intersection. I had the right of way, but grabbed brakes to keep from hitting him. He stopped too, and rolled down the heavily shaded window to let me know he saw me, as he smoked his cigarette and talked on his cell phone. I had to dismount, crank the gear down, lift the rear wheel and spin the pedal to get in a gear I could take off in (I ride a recumbent), and he waited patiently while I got going again, then made his left. This seems to happen once or twice a month on this run of road, but it's the only way home, so I have to deal with it. Rest of the ride home was effortless, other than I hit every one of the five traffic lights red. Ride in today was easy, but the weather is forecasting a 12-15kt wind from the SE in the afternoon, that my slow down my efforts to get home.
Any day riding to work is a good one, as long as you don't get killed....

Nice ride in this morning. A bit chilly, but at least there wasn't any rain. The ice patch I wiped out on yesterday is mostly melted today; it should be gone by tomorrow.

My head is feeling fine today, but my neck is a bit sore. I think it got strained in the fall.

@arsprod - Your post prompted me to do a bit of web research on helmet life, and it seems I should replace my helmet anyway due to its age (at least 15 years-old). I'll probably stop at Target on the way home.

glad to hear it! fyi - I had a fall this summer and didn't realize I had a concussion until the next day. I ended up at the ER and had issues for over a month. Don't ignore head stuff (like I tried to). I've had concussions before when I was younger but apparently over 50 brains like mine don't take kindly to getting rattled around!

Stopped to feed a friend's cats... nothing else of note except that on the ride in, I made it to 100 miles for the year. I know this is middling in comparison to some but it's on track for my goal.

Warmest, fastest commute in a quite a while with temps in upper 40s and light wind. Hoping the weather will hold long enough to ride tomorrow as well, which would make it my first 4-commute week in a while as well. A strong cold front is supposed to move through tomorrow, and the forecast is calling for showers in mid-morning to mid-afternoon, which hopefully will mean decent weather for the morning and afternoon commute times. Our weather has been awful the past month, throwing my commuting out of whack.

Well, the weather cooperated but another problem arose, forcing me to drive today. The alarm on our water heater starting blaring early this morning, indicating a leak. So I had to drive so I can coordinate repairs with the plumber. It might be for the best anyway, as forecasters are calling for severe storms today. The storms are supposed to pass through by mid-afternoon, but they often get the timing off in their forecasts. Not the kind of weather I will ride in, with high winds, lightning and heavy rain predicted.

Stopped at the LBS last night to get a new helmet. My wife also looked at their selection of urban bikes, since she's expressed interest in riding to the gym and supermarket. The Schwinn "Cream" looked nice with the IGH, front suspension, and rack/fenders. Other options were an Electra Townie (she didn't like how it looked) and a Trek Verve (looks like it would be nice for trails but not her use). There was another Electra that had a cupholder; I forget the model.

She's still hesitant to spend $400 on something she might not end up using. She hasn't ridden since she was a teenager, and she isn't interested in riding on any days that aren't perfect weather (no rain, not too cold, not too hot, etc.).

Also called my Dad and he confirmed that I have a grade 1 concussion. I need to take it easy for a few days to let my brain heal up, so no aerobic activities until Monday. Thick fog this morning from the snow mixed with warm temperatures.

Your wife rocks, mine wouldn't hesitate to spend it - actually she spent more on her latest bike that I look at daily, hanging in the breezeway!

Ride home yesterday had spots of ground fog too, the temps were in the low 50's. In one wooded section the temperature dropped considerably in the foggy spots, very weird. This morning was 34F with 20+mph head/side winds, the backside of the line of thunderstorms that moved through last night. In a couple open spots it felt like I could have walked faster. Rigging the sail for ride home!

40F / 5C with a strong headwind. Realized I busted a rear spoke on the ride home Friday, had that repaired at the LBS yesterday.

Having knee issues and it's time to see an orthopedist...this getting older stuff.

Colder this morning compare with last week at -8° celcius with a nice tail Wind. A lot of traffic for my usualy quiet rural road. With the rain we got last friday all the roads are dry and free of ice, which is nice.

Overall it was a great commute and glad to be out riding, though there was a point where the wind picked up and made life a bit harder...
still glad to have ridden in though.

Good commute in this morning; 51 Deg.F when I left the house, down to 49 by the time I got to the Metro station. Not too crowded on the Metro and no hassle with cars so overall a fine commute.

cooler, 28F when I left the house this morning, with a 5-10mph headwind.
I was late hitting the road, about 20 minutes later than usual. That translated into a lot more traffic. I had to stop at almost all the cross streets and 4 way stops where I typically am the only person there.
Combining the late start, headwinds and extra traffic - it wasn't the most enjoyable ride I've had - but it sure beats driving.

Last day off from the concussion. Weather was fair today...low 30s with a 20mph tailwind coming in. Probably didn't help my car much though.

Hopefully I get a ride in tomorrow before the snow arrives. They're calling for light snow in the afternoon.

The roads are starting to get a little better and cleared of snow etc. I don't mind the ice but this winter has been very unusual to say the least with all the frequent snow storms and ice storms. Had a couple weekend rides though. Have not commuted much this winter so far due to projects out of town and having to drive so the weather really didn't affect me that much. Looking forward to spring and hopefully get back to commuting. It really helps me feel so much better.

We've had great weather for a change lately, and it's been a welcome relief from the snow and ice. If the timing of our next cold front works out, I might be able to bike commute every day this week, and I haven't be able to do that in a long time. The days are also getting noticeably longer, and I'm using my headlight now mainly to be seen rather than to see.

It felt pretty cold coming in. The thermometer said 22F when I left. I should have worn my thicker gloves; the ones I chose left my fingers pretty cold by the time I got to work. I got spoiled last week with temperatures in the 40s. The light snow/flurries they were forecasting never happened.

Is it odd that I'm extra conscious of things that would make me fall? My new helmet fits perfectly. I ended up with a Bontrager Solstice in orange and gray (https://www.bontrager.com/model/11671). The visor will be nice once it warms up enough for me to take off the helmet cover.

I like winter and snow, but even I'm ready for warmer weather.
