Someone stole my light mounts
 

I have 2 Planet Bike headlights that use these little plastic quick release mounts:

About halfway home from work I realized they were gone. There's no way they just fell off. One of them has been on there for years. Someone stole my ****ing light mounts!

What does this idiot plan on doing with them? I find it unlikely that someone has the same Planet Bike lights and really needed two new mounts.

Was he just being an *******? In that case, why not do something fun like disconnect my brake cable? I might actually get a good laugh out of that one.

Aside from taking off my bar tape or something, those mounts were the only unlocked thing someone could actually steal. I always take the lights off, but never bothered taking the mounts off because I figured they were useless to anyone else.

I guess the good news is that they actually sell replacements. I'll be out about $10 total, but the annoyance and confusion will last a lifetime.

Sorry to say some people just suck. When things like that happen I just want to be dissapointed
in people in general but really most people are okay. Unfortunately 99 percent of the time we only
notice the jackasses cause they do something like that.

Having had a bike stolen, I know how it feels. I really didn't like that bike, but it's the feeling of your posessions being violated that sucks.

Could've been worse, I bought a spare cygolite mount and it had an MSRP of $15 each.

Could have been worse. They could have kicked the wheels into oblivion.

To me, it's not so much the cost, but the feeling that someone violated me by stealing from my bike, which is such a personal part of me and important part of my life. Not that long ago, I had a water bottle stolen off my bike. Thing was, this was in the locked bike cage at work! Before that, I felt so safe there I didn't even lock up my bike! I figured the only people that have access are about a dozen or two cyclists and maybe a maintenance worker or three. The only thing interesting about the water bottle is it was very large, so I have to wonder if someone was just going out of their way to mess with me, or if they were so cheap that they figured they'd save a few bucks by stealing my Magnum Zefal. It was even all beat-up and scarred with aluminum from a cheap cage.

Now I pull my lights off my bike in the cage at work and lock it up too, which is a shame really. You'd think you'd be able to trust two dozen other cyclists, but apparently not.

In the case of the light mounts getting stolen, I'd bet that a thief had stolen several of those lights and needed the mounts to either mount them themselves or sell them as complete.

My money would be on the thief being nothing more than an ass that has nothing to do with them and probably doesn't even know what they are for.

Some people are just worthless turds through and through.

I caught a guy attempting to steal my sweaty old bike gloves drying on my handlebars. Came to conclude some people just like to steal from others. If they had been lying on the ground, he probably wouldn't have picked them up.

It's an easy thing to say but try not to let it bother you. Something like this is so nonsensical because most likely the person has no use for them. Just an opportunistic thing they did for sake of doing it.

Sprinkle some anthrax under the new mounts........ at least they will get sick when they remove them...... :innocent:

This may be a good opportunity to consider the benefits of lights that have integrated mounts, e.g. Knog.

The other thing to consider is that the Planet Bike stuff is ubiquitous, so the chance that someone will recognize, need, and want your junk is comparatively high.

Unfortunatly society is experiencing a decay in moral behavior, brush it off and move on, chances are worse things will happen over your lifetime.

I agree with others who say it could have been much worse. I am glad you didn't walk up on them when they were taking the mounts. That would have been real nasty either way.. Considered yourself lucky, it wasn't your bike, and that was a warning. I am fortunate that on my commute, my bike comes inside and either in my cube or right beside. I don't even lock the beater up outside. Everything comes in side.. Again, glad you didn't walk up on them, somebody was going to the hospital!! ;)

That is so pathetic, stealing something that one could buy for just few dollars? I tend to think the thief really needed and knew how to use it, for there would be many "better" ways if someone just wanted to play a prank. How long did you park your bike outside and in what kind of surrounding?
