How bout 20 degrees with four inches of snow on the ground? Wanna change places?

Two things you may consider, even though you might only use them a couple times per year: pogies for the handlebars (presuming you have flat bars, not drops) and shoe covers (I've heard good things about the Pearl Izumi Barriers).

Don't do snow, ok, you win:D

Plz do not use the words like "cold" or "winter" with places like Hawaii or FL.

The FL panhandle (Destin, Panama City etc.) was having freezing rain and sleet last week. That is just totally wrong.

Like most everyone else, I'm sick of this. Compared to last year, I'm 6 days behind on my bike commuting days.

However, now I'm REALLY sick of it. My new Trek Crossrip LTD has arrived at the LBS! We struck a deal on a tire upgrade and are now waiting on those to arrive. Yesterday left us with 5+ inches of snow with a skim of sleet to finish it off. Tomorrow is supposed to bring a 1/4" of ice with more snow on Fri. & the weekend. Enough already!

We had a super nice day in the 60's on Saturday, but I didn't get to ride at all with all the other stuff I had going on. Then yesterday was rain and freezing rain in the area, temps in the 20's and 30's all this week.

I swear I cannot get a break on the weather timing.

awesome i was looking at that bike this past saturday while at the bike shop with my son. I was dropping off my commuter for some winter TLC

I'm trying to be patient. I've lived in the Midwest all but 4 or 5 years of my life and have never seen anything like this past January: 48" of snow and two separate weeks with wind chills approaching -35. I still managed to get out most days, and I am not thinking of an indoor trainer, perhaps some Nokian Extreme tires, but not an indoor trainer. For once February may seem to be a relief.

Well it's not as cold as it's been but we got a fair bit of snow again. I'm hoping that the temperature goes above freezing tomorrow and it all begins to melt by Wednesday.

Not quite, more coming Wednesday. Then again (maybe) this weekend. New York is a winter wonderland

Although it was in the 20s today, the roads were clear and dry. I took my three-seasons commuter with the road tires on my winter loop to work. Came home the same way. Nice waning moon over my shoulder.

Tomorrow, since I don't need the panniers, I think I'll take the Litespeed. Snow returns on Wednesday, so it'll be back to the studs.

Thats what they said on the news but weather.com is saying 36° with rain on Wenesday with snow on Saturday and Sunday. I'm just hoping for one more rideable day this week.

Perhaps in NYC, but here Upstate? Snow and a high of 27 on Wednesday.

Yeah but you will get rain until mid March. So there!

I hope you and weather.com are right. My (usually, somtimes?) reliable source has Wednesday opening with rain and changing to freezing rain and ice as the temp drops through the day. Of course this may be a question of where the rain/ice line is. I'm in lower Westchester, so am usually a few degrees cooler.

"Clear and dry"??? This is my bike at about 8am 16 miles out from work and 2 miles from a hot shower

mrodgers 02-04-14 06:48 AM

I watch the local weather and expect the opposite of whatever they say. If they are predicting a lot of snow (4-6" tonight, which isn't exactly a lot for northwestern PA, but...) then I expect to have a dusting. When they predict 1-2, it seems that is when we get 6+.

Last week they predicted 1-2". I cleaned 6 inches off the cars, went back out a few hours later, cleaned another 4 inches off and ran the snow blower, and in the morning cleared off another 3 inches from the car to go to work.

Just...no...

woo finally some steady mid-upper 50's are coming later this week!

Picked up a pair of these at Sportsman's Warehouse on Saturday to hopefully keep my feet from freezing on cold morning commutes. I got the XL which says works for size 13, but they still seem VERY hard to get on/off past the heels of my feet. We'll see. 25 bucks, and if my feet still freeze on my next morning commute I'm taking 'em back.

YOU may be getting 50's, but over here it will be rain/snow/other various forms of precipitation from this afternoon until Thursday night.
