Can someone recommend between one of these? They both come super recommended. I was planning on using it on my SSFG Jamis sputnik track bike along with some fenders.

I just don't really know much of the difference. Has anyone used both or prefer one over the other?

I have both. I like the Super Tourist better because of the rails for panniers are slightly dropped so you can mount a trunk bag and panniers at the same time. I think the panniers also sit back a little farther with the Super Tourist. The Explorer is pretty good too.

Looking at the website I agree with Andy, it's nice that you can mount the panniers lower so if you wanted a trunk bag or a tent etc on top you could do it, so for opening up options I would go with the Super Tourist.
Also Bontrager makes a nice one called the Backrack Deluxe or Backrack Deluxe L (L stands for large bikes).

But depending on how much weight you'll be carrying you may want a better rack to help stabilize the load better on the bike to keep the bike from feeling like it's swaying, the Tubus Logo rack is so well built it will stabilize the load and the bike, or the ultimate is the Tubus Cosmo made of stainless steel and can carry up to 88 pounds. Those Topeak's, Blackburn's, Bontrager's and others are great for lighter touring gear at around 40 pounds or less. If this is a serious heavy loaded touring trip don't skimp on the rack.

I have an explorer. Bought it because I have a trunk bag with zip out small panniers for commuting. The whole thing slides and locks onto the rack, nice feature. BUT, I end up never really taking it off (so quick release is not needed), the slide connector is extra weight and rattles over bumps (I wedged inner tube rubber to stop that), large size panniers have no rear support to keep them out of the rear wheel so a pannier only setup on the explorer may not work well.

I'm thinking of going with a super tourist DX or similar and just use panniers in the future for lower weight dist. Lower pannier bars and the quick release top track would still be useable.

I've used the Explorer for about 5 years and like it, but would buy the Super Tourist if I was to do it all over again due to the rails for mounting the panniers. I always use a rack trunk and sometimes use one pannier, and mounting the pannier would be easier with the lower rail. But other than that, the Explorer is a great rack.

Super Tourist is harder to get. Mine took 3 weeks. Having said that, I like it better than the explorer.
