Mango bikes - panniers??

Hi all, this is my first post on here, so here goes...

Does anyone here ride a Mango for commuting? I've had one for nearly a month now and I ride it pretty much everywhere. At the moment I'm thinking about getting a pannier rack for it, but having seen the mango website where it says "only panniers bought from us will fit our bikes" I'm a little apprehensive. So I was wondering, is this specifically true? Anyone use a pannier on their mango that they bought elsewhere?

Looking forward to hearing your responses!

P.S I'm not looking for hipster points; more for practicality.

Cheers!

Never heard of them before, so I had to Bing 'em. I found Mango Cruisers (presumably out of FL) and Mango Bikes out of the UK.

Having looked at both sites, it looks like you are talking about the UK based one. What is odd is that they are calling a rear rack a pannier. Panniers - Mango Bikes.

Frame geometry doesn't look all that radical, so I question their claim that only a proprietary rack would work.

See the long term BSO thread on this same page. I don't think Acidfast uses panniers, but he has a Mango bike so he may be able to comment on rackability.

why not get a bike that is obviously ready to mount, or includes racks, there are many others to choose.

Anyway, you'd have to go to the Hipster subforum for such points. We can only give out Commuter points here.

my ride:

will hit 1100km (700 miles) on it today:

feel free to ask me anything about the bike ... what I like/don't like ... etc!

I like a backpack because I travel a ton/and find it much better than any pannier/messenger bag option when doing a bike/train/airport/on plane/flight/off plane/airport/train/bike combo (2-3x/month).

Are there specific types of rack that would fit a mango frame then? I'll get a closer picture of the frame when I can.

Thanks for your help mate

The Mango ones are **** and I wasn't happy with the install.

so i binned da****s straight away.

I ended up with Curd RoadRacer MK II which I really like and would recommend. They hold up well to getting hammered in the bike locker all the time

I'm basically looking for a pannier rack that will fit my mango bike, or if I will just have to buy mango's own one.
(In case you couldn't tell I'm new to the commuting world)

honestly, I would go with a generic rack. i thought the fenders from Mango were quite crap.

the metal pedals with toe clips were quite good though.

i would go with any universal bike rack.

but honestly, i would rather do a backpack any day of the week (my commute is only 6 miles each way!)

Lazin! I have found it very comfortable for longer rides though, it is also nice not having to concentrate on which gear I am in/need to be in; I can just ride.

I have found the backpack method leaving with a sweaty back when I arrive at work/college...not ideal. Will look into a rack when payday comes along!
I guess the backpack or rack thing is down to personal preference.

sure.

to be serious, i think just about any rack will fit.

i did find that the threaded holes near the centre of the rear wheel has some paint spray in there, which isn't so nice when trying to thread a bolt through them.

i really think that any adjustable rack would work.

look through amazon.co.uk and wiggle.co.uk and post what you like and we can determine if it would work.

i will warn you that people on BF can be quite serious about gear (because some have 50+ miles RT commutes) ... so don't take anything personally.

personally, I think they're a steal for £299 and I hope to get many years out of my Mango!

Your wheel size is 700c (sometimes listed as -622 in ISO, or as 28-zoll (inches) in German, or as 29" in the US).

I would look at something like this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ventura-Scre...ords=bike+rack

especially that it's only £35 with panniers (the actual bags) including shipping.

i don't think that it's the best quality kit ever, but i think it's a good starting point.

That looks like a good option. Looks fairly adaptable too, which can only be a good thing! Thanks for your help.

Could you post a pic of your bike in my BSO thread, so we could be bike buddies?

I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to quote you on my blog, because this is the first time I've seen someone use Bing as a verb. I was waiting for this historic moment.

As far as I know, not deliberately. Some use it because their browsers are set that way. I don't know anyone who prefers it. I understand that overall, bing's results are as good as google's but I rarely try. I'm still an anti-Microsoft bigot.

I've found that to be an easily repairable condition.
