Fixie pedals on my 8 speed commuter? Suggestions.

Was thinking of getting these fixie straps/pedals for my CAAD3 8 speed commuter. Just want to know if that is a mortal sin.

Cheaper than spd shoes and pedals. How long is your commute?

I actually have a spare pair of SPDs but this bike is for short rides around town so I can just wear regular shoes. Just didn't know if straps on a road frame would be ridiculous, but I'm hating not having any upstroke with my regular pedals.

if your caad8 is commuterified they would look fine...just don't ever put them on your supersix.

I have a pair of those pedals, and will say that if you can afford the step up to the sealed bearing models from Fyxation, that would be a better choice for durability and low maintenance on a commuter.

I like them as I don't need an extra pair of shoes and can wear street clothes when I commute

Looks like a perfectly reasonable choice to me.

I've got dual sided (platform/SPD) pedals on my bikes, but I never end up riding without cleats except when I'm tuning up my bikes.

Do you think the fixie kids would still think those pedals were cool if they knew those were just pedals taken off of really crappy stationary bikes? Lol

I had a pair of that style straps on a nice set of platforms. I didn't like them.

But, I don't like rap music, or Dancing With the Stars. Lots of folks do.

You'll just have to get some and try. It's not the end of the world. I sold them on eBarf, only a small final cost for a trial.

That being said, I didn't like toe clip and straps either. At least the hipster straps don't scuff your shoes. You don't think some kid riding a $159 bike is gonna screw up his $300 "lookatmeI'mcool" shoes, do you??

Don't think it would matter much...............they put them on really crappy roll-down-the-road (for a while) bikes.

They came in last night. I didn't realize that they didn't come with pedals... because there were some in the picture. Ended up grabbing some pedals off my mountain bike to test these out.

Overall A+ when it comes to these strap style pedal "clips." They are far better than traditional toe clips, and when tight, not to much worse that clipless. Although I definitely lost my backstroke which I can imagine takes a fair bit of efficiency out of the picture. The hipsters know what they are doing sometimes-- these things rock.
