N360 with roller, coaster, or disc brake?
 

I was wondering the compatibility of roller, coaster, or disc brake with N360 CVT hub.

I ride year round in all weather & i'm concerned about transitioning from coaster to rim brakes & potential less braking power....

For a rear wheel, pretty much any brake should be sufficient (for all but the messiest of commutes*). 80% of stopping power is from front brake.

All that said, if you want, just get a Nuvinci that is disc brake ready if you don't want rim brakes.

* If you do switch to rim brakes, getting the right brake pad can make a huge difference here.

p.s. For front brakes, I think disc brakes have a lot of merit. For rear brakes, the biggest reason to have disc brakes (for most riders) is because that's what you've got on the front.

The N360 is disc compatible with the standard 6 bolt 160 mm discs. I am planning to use that on a commuter for my son.

I had a bike with a roller brake and one with a coaster. While the roller brake was great for stopping, it truly slowed down the bike. The coaster brake was similar and it does not freewheel very well. I would go for disc brake.

on N360 .. just go with the disc version , only sensible alternate is rim brakes ..


I think a hubshell sub assembly has to be specified when you order the hub,

IDK if there is an after the fact way to change that.

Disc would seem the best all weather option. With disc hub, you could always use rim brakes, provided you built the wheel that way and the frame had the fittings.

Thanks for the input all!!! I think i will give disc on rear a try. Front has dynamo, so i'm not sure front would work.
