Today, on my 25km/15mi ride in to work, I did about 15min of a HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) routine, 30sec seated sprint, 90sec light spin. The intent was to do 10 intervals but on the section of 2-lane highway that I was doing it on, I ran out of highway before the complete routine was done (the next section of the commute has too many lights to be able to continue it) so I'm going to shorten the rest period for next time. It was tough but I'm feeling quite fine now (about 3hrs later); I do expect to be quite hungry by lunch in another 90min.

I rode home from the shop with my friend who was on his geared touring bike and I was riding my fixed gear that is running a 53:18 until I swap in a 20 tooth cog... he said he could not believe how fast the bike was and I told him I was idling.

Idling on a fixie!!! LMAO!!
Apparently, my leisurely pace is still in the high 20's. |
I made it clear up MLK in Chapel Hill yesterday, as far as the final kink upward at Columbia, and realized I had never shifted into the little ring at the bottom of the hill. One needs a granny ring for the last part.

... And I just realized that my jeans are not shrinking; my legs are getting more voluminous. Wallet in pockets hurts now!

When you can't ride at what you feel is a leisurely pace anymore and you always feel the need to be pedaling

When you can keep up with a single on your tandem towing a tag along Burley Picolo and you are the only one pedaling. :)

it's bear going into town... And a soul sucker going out! Little ring? Hell, I'd take a tow! Congrats! |
When the hill that laughed at you a year ago goes by at 25kmh with a 'what hill?' thought coming. Kind of disappointing. Need me a bigger longer higher hill.

I rode up it all the way for the first time, first try the other day on new bike. It was nearly impossible with my cruiser, but the N360 dropped me down low enough that i could finally keep moving. The hill in question is on my park to snack break route from the canoe rental area in tyler park to mccaffreys via the bypass. 10/10 would recommend for hill climb training. - Andy |
I was unfortunate enough to be one of those riders when starting out that thought the small ring was for lady boys. I got strong fast but suffered in the process. Wouldn't have done it differently if I went back, but still, sufferfest haha.

Lucky you guys.
I grew up with a bike. Seems like a good childhood, but the problem now is that my butt and hips are not proportional to the waist. That is, a 32 waist relaxed levi's look like lycra pants on me. A 36 waist fit hips perfect, but the jeans fall off my waist and butt :( |
