Happy Bike to Work Day!
Hope everyone is having a good one.
Passed three "support stations" on the way to work. Got some nice mini-swag, plus coffee and a banana. On the other hand, it seemed like there was an unusual among of road work going on… bad timing! Just hoping the showers hold off until commute hours are over. |
It's not until next week in the DC area. Black Friday, as far as I'm concerned. Hopefully the CCT will still be closed, and the wannabe bike commuters will be forced to ride on the muddy towpath. That, I will pay to see.

Hey, Alan… it does look like National Bike to Work Day is June 16th.
How embarrassing. For some reason, it was TODAY in the SF Bay area. They gave us a nine-county tote bag and everything. Well, I wish you a Happy Black Friday in advance. |

Not working anymore, so I did a 'Bike to Hike' instead:
'Bike to Hike' day - Hiking trip | EveryTrail Best Energizer Station was the one closest to home with an assortment of hot breakfast burritos in addition to fruits, juice, assorted energy bars and a bicycle-powered make-your-own-smoothie. |
^^^^ I think I love the idea of a bicycle-powered make-your-own-smoothie even more than the bicycle-powered Merry-Go-Round in Davis!

Ours was today, I think. It's been very festive around here this week with repair station set ups, group commuting, and special this and special that and friendly people trying to stop me and give me free stuff. Good on ya!
But I hope they don't confuse my extreme disinterest for rudeness. It's just that I don't want to stop to chat or take stuff I don't need or want. Something I do every day is not something I need to commemorate or share. Just once I'd love to see them there in January offering up hot toddy's. I'd stop for that. |
You wouldn't know WHEN the heck it is here on Long Island, as I am the only person I know in my community who bikes to work at all. I'm pretty sure it's some time this month. I really wish I lived someplace that made a big deal out of it. I'd LOVE to stop somewhere after work for a drink and some face-time with other commuters.

It's May 26 to June 1 here in Vancouver. Was later in June last year. Guess they're worried about low turnout if it's cold and wet :-)
https://bikehub.ca/bike-to-work-week seriously though, I don't begrudge those who start riding during BTWW... maybe some of them will get hooked! As for the extra traffic on the bike routes... Just more people for me to pass, and they even press the button for me at cyclist controlled intersections ;) |
I think there should be one week, same week every year universally observed. Would make it easier to organize related events & activities. Perhaps north & south hemisphere should have two different times as the seasons are offset....

Why must Bike to Work Day come but once a year?
LAB says National Bike to Work Day is next Friday. With the whole week being Bike to Work Week. |

Bike to Work week is next week where I live
|
Bike to Work Week here (Milwaukee, not sure if it's the rest of Wisc. too) is next week.
I didn't realize this. Think I just might try to ride every day next week. There's a chance I won't ride Wednesday, because my daughter has a softball game that night, but we'll see. |

Too bad it rained in the SF bay area on bike to work day : (
I don't work on Thursdays and it seems that bike to work day has been on a Thursday for at least a few years now. I also saw signs that there was a bike to school day, which was last Wednesday. +1 re: stopping for a hot toddy at an "energizer" station in January, provided there is no BUI risk... A friend of mine used to live in Davis, CA and she said people often got BUI's there... |

Did you get some good stuff? Which stations did you pass? I only passed the Oracle station - food looked good, but I had forgotten that it is BTWD so I couldn't stop - had to make a meeting and just had time to cool down and change.
I suspect the food was better at Oracle. |

Apparently you don't have to ride over Alex Fraser... Get one or two slowpokes on that bridge and you really start longing for winter, badly...
