Fenders for CaadX Disc
 

I'm looking for fenders for my CaadX and I'm thinking of the SKS 45 Longboard.

The size says 28-37mm. Does than mean they would with tires up to 37mm wide? The bike currently has 35mm tires so I'm assuming that's okay. What does the 45 in the name mean anyway? I thought maybe the SKS 35 would work but they only go up to 28mm.

If using disc brakes does that change any of the clearance issues?

Are these good fenders? Anything else I might want to consider?

I'm looking to buy the same set of fenders. SKS is a well liked company for their fenders, and yes, 37mm wide tires are the upper limit with those fenders.

Are you creative enough to Improv the mounting ?

The struts are bendable .

If not just buy them in a shop and they will install them.

How much improv is needed? More than installing a rack? Had not do a fair bit of improv there too. Thought maybe the lack of brakes would make it a bit easier.

I have never had any work done in a bike shop in my life. HOWEVER, having mounted one set of SKS fenders on a bike with rack and disk brake, if I ever had it to do again, I would pay a shop to do it.

I have these fenders. They're very nice. I like them a lot better than the regular chromoplastics.

Yes, up to 37mm wide tires. The fenders are 45mm wide, which is what the 45 refers to. You need the fenders to be wider than the tires, otherwise the tires won't fit very well and it won't keep water from splashing out the sides.

As for discs, that may cause a problem for the fender struts, depending on how your brakes are mounted and where your dropouts are on your frame. However, if you get creative, you can usually find a workaround (e.g. adding a spacer or finding another place to mount them).

Longer bolts and spacers on the left-hand struts,maybe a touch of strut bending. No big deal. Putting fenders on disc bikes has never been an issue for me.

Yes, I just got a pair last week to replace a set of plastic fenders that was a tiny bit too thin (using 32's) and they're much better. These chromoplastic ones keep their intended shape, look good, and keep you dry.

I use these on 1.6" wide 26" tires. I ended up attaching the stays to the mid-fork braze-on as you can see here:

On my other bike I had to use spacers like dynaryder. It wasn't a big deal...after I FOUND the spacers.

Hardware stores are your friends. Also marinas,they have quality stainless bits.

I installed the SKS P45 Long Board fenders on my '10 Trek 7100 and it wasn't hard at all. It did take me about 2 hours start to finish with me taking breaks, going in for dinner, doing other things, etc.

I could probably do it again in under 30 minutes - it wasn't what I would call hard by any means. If you think the install is hard/difficult then I would wonder what other simple tasks you consider difficult [not an insult, just curiosity]. The directions that come with them are terrible but I watched this video and it was easy as pie:

They install some SKS fenders in that video and the process I used was exactly the same.

The only thing I had to do was do a little bending of the struts once it was installed to center the fenders at the ends. Easy as pie to do - just grab onto them and apply some pressure and they bend without much trouble but they're strong enough they aren't going to get bent on their own without something bad happening to cause it.
