Fenders for Giant Cypress DXW??

Hi All,
I am TOTALLY new to biking and just bought a 2014 Cypress DX W by Giant. Have not even rec'd it yet! I am going to use it for 5 mile one way commute daily to work... but I would like to add fenders and a rear rack for the panniers I bought to go with----any thoughts? Thanks so much
Christine

Good for you! Before getting a new bike this past May, I rode a Giant Cypress DX for ten years, including one year as a commuter (12 miles round trip). I had the bike shop put on low-end fenders and a rack, which worked just fine.

If I had to do it over again, I would have gone with something like this Racktime: https://www.amazon.com/Racktime-Addit.../dp/B004EZUNFO. This rack makes it easy to put a basket on top and still be able to use panniers. On my bike, they had to use a p-clamp because it lacked an attachment point on the seat tube.

I got the Ortleib front roller classic panniers: Amazon.com : Ortlieb Front Roller Classic Bag - Pair Yellow/Black, One Size : Bike Panniers And Rack Trunks : Sports & Outdoors. They are pricey, but perfect. I've used them in pouring rain, and nothing has ever gotten wet. They come in a set, but I normally only need one. Very easy to attach and detach.

Have fun!

Planet Bike Hybrid fenders should fit. For the front, the top mount will go in the hole in the middle of the brace that goes between the fork legs. You'll need a shorter bolt to replace the one that would normally go through the fork crown.

These are the fenders I used on my Giant Cypress: Bontrager: NCS Fender (Model #09150). They did the job. My only complaint is that if I hit a big bump (pot hole, rail road tracks, etc.) too hard, they sometimes got out of alignment and would rub the tire. I always carried a multi-tool with me, so it was easy enough to pull over and tighten things up. Still, it was an annoyance. They were super easy to put on and take off. I've taken them off now that I'm no longer using the bike for commuting purposes.

Those are for 26-inch tires. I'm pretty sure yours are 700C, so you would need these: Fenders Cascadia Hybrid/Touring Black. I've never used these, but they look pretty good. The long mud flap is nice.

edit: according to the specs on your bike, your tires are 700x38. The fenders above only accommodate up to 700x35, so they may not work with your bike. You might want to contact PB before ordering.

Those fenders work fine on 40mm tires. Just mount them a little higher to get he necessary clearance. The 45mm wide fenders are a nice clean look on a 40mm tire. They almost disappear.

Yeah,I've used the Hybrid ones with 37/38mm tires. Note: many tires are actually narrower than what the label says.

I, too, use these, and love them.

I've hit many a bump, though, without the alignment shift. Sounds like perhaps something may not be completely tightened all the way??

I suggest you visit your local bike shop (LBS) and get help deciding what's right for you and your bike. The folks there can help, and the extra money you pay is worth it.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but any pics with fenders mounted? I am looking to see what fits my mom's 2014 giant cypress dx as a Xmas present.
