What kind of bike should I get?
1 Attachment(s)
I currently have a giant Aluxx with fairly good component, but I feel like it's a bit overboard for the small amount of mileage I do a week. I ride to school everyday; about 2 miles. The extra mileage would be either from going to my friends house and the occasional ride with my brother who is an avid cyclist. So the question I have is, what type of bike should I get? I would really like a vintage bicycle I can work on to have the end result as a beautiful bike. The front rim was temporary not minehttp://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=386748

Hi Ronald,
Welcome to the forums! I, myself, have not been around in months due to a move, an serious illness, a new job, my MA thesis etc., but am trying to get back in the swing of things around here, so welcome aboard. First, I think it is good tha tyou have already (mainly) centered on what your needs will be for this new bike. However, if you are willing to "go vintage", are you willing to put in the time/money that this type of project with entail? Not to dissuade you in anyway, as I love vintage bicycles myself, but just a thought. Another thought, would be to build your current bicycle to be everything you want/need it to be. I believe that our bicycles can serve a variety of purposes, if properly cared for. However, some bicycles that I love that are new, but have that vintage feel to them are Pashley, Linus, Adeline Adeline, Bobbin etc. Then there is always Performance Bike (that is where my bicycle came from and she has a very vintage feel to her for being a 2012 - partly because I've decked her out from stem to wheel), Craigslist, eBay etc. Just my thoughts! Have fun and enjoy the ride whichever you choose. |
