Safety Vest Review
1 Attachment(s)
Well, I took my first ride on my finished bike yesterday in the Joshua Tree National Park and I was wearing my lime green safety vest (one of these jobbies http://www.safetycentral.com/refpoltrafsa.html) ... sure enough ... it worked! Not only did everyone give me a WIDE berth while passing, I was approached twice for assistance - everyone thought I was a ranger. "We'd really like to see an ephemral spring sir" "Gee, so would I." "You're... you're not a ranger, are you..." "No." #2 at the entrance to a trail to a dam "So, there really a dam up there?" "Dunno" "You don't know??" "Nope, never been up there." "YOU'VE NEVER BEEN UP THERE" "I don't work here" "Your vest looks very professional." "I'm trying not to get hit by a car."
Though, now that I think about it, the shorts probably didn't help. Now just need to see how it works in non-park traffic. |
Are there any Canadian sources for a vest like this? MEC has one, but it's pricey...

I don't believe so, it was thoroughly killed after it was grown in the swamps of Squornshellous Zeta.

I have a bright yellow jersey and another bright orange jersey that's just about as visible.
I think the vest makes you look more like someone in a position of authority, construction traffic director, park ranger, etc. |

DO work!! As to ventelation look for a vest that has mesh over most of the vest. My vest is a lime green survayors vest that 90% mesh with just pockets on the front. I sewed a velcro strip across the front for hot days so I don't have to zip it. I can adjust the strip to almost full open to allow max cooling while not look like a bird flaping in the wind while I ride. A safety vest is the best investment you'll ever make in your personal ride safety. Cars DO give you wide bearth and they don't crowd up as close behind either!!!!!!!!!! |
look up safety vest at www.harborfreight.com. $4 or so for a nice safety vest with plenty of ventilation
