Passing on a steep hill
What is your strategy?
|
Hills are enough of a challenge, I don't need to make it "worse". If I do come across a slower person, then I will keep my regular pace, only going faster if the space is narrow and I don't want to stick out into traffic but then slow down to regular pace. If he/she doesn't like me passing and want to race, then, IT'S ON BUDDY!!!, just kidding, I'll just let them have at it without me.
|
The poll is not about passing bicyclists.
|
I am not sure I understand the answers, but, if the person is close to my speed, I will will maybe slow down and just trail them. There is no point in throwing down the challenge flag on a hill.
If they are really dragging ass up the hill, I will pass them. |
I thought you could tell by the answers. We're talking about passing gas! More of a problem for us vegetarians I guess.
|
Your poll reminds me of the phrase, "Never trust a fart." Is that what this poll is about?
|
My colon was removed due to Crohn's Disease in the late '80s so I have an ileostomy (my kids call it my poop bag). My coworker, at the next desk is a vegetarian and is quite gaseous. He let's them fly and then blames me. I tell him he's showing off. :)
|
Whether is gas or a cyclist the answer is the same for me. Pause (access if it's worth my effort) and let it all out. In the cyclist case, I see if he or she is dragging, then I pass all out till I'm ahead, then resume my pace. If it's gas I make sure is just that and if I can assert is only gas, I let it rip! However, like everything, sometimes the strategy fails and you get a challenge up hill or end up doing laundry that day! LOL!:)

Stand up and let 'er rip!

So we're all agreed then? This is a poll about when and how to fart on hill?
|
for me it's the same as when you're driving and someone busts a$$ to get in front of you then they slow down. if you take the slot, you haven't earned it till you can keep it. if you cycle past someone on a climb you better be able to keep it once you've reached the peak. if you can't, then save your energy and pace them, but not so close they're doing the work for you.

Walter, can you not think of anything more worthy of being immortalized on one of Bike Forums servers for as long as The Grid holds up?? I mean... really? Farts? Clenching... my teeth...

OK, I admit to being a bit juvenile - a quality I hope to die holding intact! |
You just talking about some person slower on the hill than you are right? :innocent: :innocent:
"Rolling Coal" from monster trucks, blowing Diesel smoke in your face, who is going to notice. ? |
OK, so I checked out this post to see what others had responded when I noticed that I too had misinterpreted "passing" and as I was reading the other responses, I noticed I was listening to a song, the chorus of which is "[you] only know you love her when you let her go" but the singer wasn't pronouncing the second "her" very well so all I heard, appropriately for this post was, "[you] only know you love her when you let it go".
Ain't that the truth!!! |
Honestly, I had no idea what this question was referring to.

Hey, if you cannot pass outside, where can you pass? Now in a pace line, it's just rude to not go to the rear...
|
Lift while pedaling, duh.
