I know this LED light has been mentioned in a few other threads, but I just wanted to get a post in specifically about this product to let anyone looking for relatively cheap lighting know what's out there.

I commute to work on some dark stretches of road with an LED headlight and figured that I was going to need to move to an expensive lighting system because I'd just had too many experiences that I could have avoided with the proper lighting (potholes, sticks, dead things..)

I bought this headlight for $46.00 (Cdn). The bikeshop recommended that I try it out on my helmet to see what I thought. Wow. It has 7 LED's and can be set for 1,3,7, or seven blinking. I set the light for the brightest setting with all seven lights on. It's powered by 3 AAA batteries and will run for 20 hours at that setting.

Looks interesting, this may be an option for my wife. I'll have to see how my own homebrew LED headlight turns out first, though. :D

It's not a bad idea. I think the next step would be to have a 7 led red blinky on the back of the strap so that it can be attacted on the rear of the helmet. I wonder if this device voids the helmet and any warranty because you're not supposed to attach any lights?

BLT's products are marketed in the USA by a company called Bicycle Technologies International. Here's a link to the BTI Store Locator.

If you put in your zipcode it shows local stores that carry their products. I used a Dallas zipcode and found 20 cycling stores. 20! I only have 5 within 40 k of my house. The BTI site shows REI as one of their distributors but I couldn't find any of the products on their site.

Good luck findding it. If you don't have any luck, one of my local stores, Rapid City Cycle, carries the tail light. He's online as Bike Canada. He hasn't updated his website to show the Flare's but I can't imagine he'd have a problem selling them online. Let me know if you still need it and I'll check with him.

Good point. I never thought about the helmet warranty thing, or the actual effectiveness if you crash. I've actually stayed away from the rear light because I thought it was too bright, but I'm not sure there is such a thing.
