Best bike for xtracycle conversion
After a lot of help from people on this forum, I have decided to get an xtracycle so I can commute to work with my guitar. The problem is that my only bike is a Trek 2300 and I would rather not convert it to an xtracycle (still nice to have a road bike for when I don't have to haul stuff). Does anybody have any suggestions on a cheap bike that would work well for xtracycle conversion. I would prefer slick tires and drop bars (as that is what I am used to). Also, I weigh about 230 and will be carrying about 20-40 pounds worth of gear, if that makes a difference.
Thanks,
Chris

I don't have an xtracycle but I've thought about it many times. I'd suggest an old steel frame mountainbike from the '80s - a Stumpjumper or something decent like that. They are almost indestructable and you can get them cheap. Who wants a low tech, hardtail, rigid fork mountainbike any more? Check the pawn shops, Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc.
Here is an example of the type...
