Schwalbe Marathon (original) tread separating from GG layer, Normal? Runout, Normal?
I'm pretty disappointed in the original (HS420) Marathons I just installed and am wondering if I should return them after two rides.
My problems are:
1. Runout (bulges) in the tires. On true rims there are .08-inch bulges in the sidewall of the tires. Normal? Both tires are similar.
2. After two rides, each tire has a tread block peeling up revealing the Greenguard layer under the tread. Again, Normal? I'm inclined to think that a road tire is ready for the dump once any part of the tread peels up. Maybe not the case with a Greenguard layer underneath?
Thanks for your input if you have experience with these tires!

Been riding a pair on my commuter for the last couple of months. The quality control seems a bit lax on these judging by the fact that the reflective strips on the sides aren't even close to concentric with the bead, but I've definitely got no tread peeling. I'd take it back.

Yeah, you definitely got a faulty product, OP.
There were slight "bulges" in my 420s after installation but that was from where the tire was folded during packing and transit. The "bulges" went away after riding a bit. I'm not sure if this pertains to your issue or not OP, but it's IMO worth mentioning.
The separation issue is almost certainly a manufacturing fault and definitely warrants a RMA of the tire.

Im generally not an alarmist, but I wouldnt do any hi-speed descents on them if they were on my bike.
Maybe take your whole bike in to the shop you purchased them from and show them what they look like blown up?

I'm running HS420 size 700 x 35 on my commuter. 2,700 miles so far, tire and tread look good. Looks like you got a bad set, send them back.
