Kirkland is good stuff, even though it's the house brand!
I'm really concerned about toenail fungus, since once you get it, you may never be able to get rid of it. For that reason, I'm more fastidious about changing my socks daily than about my underwear. Socks are the one thing I'm sure to change every day.
Wool doesn't last as long when you dry it in a clothes dryer. Furthermore, it is less necessary to use a dryer than with cotton, so when I remember, I hang dry my wool stuff. Socks, not so much, unless I'm feeling energetic. Socks with nylon content are a lot more durable than socks without.
I think cotton is the worst material for socks. I discovered long ago that wool is best, but synthetic can be good, too, and this was back when synthetic wasn't as good as it is today.

No doubt, but when they're Gold Toe, even abusing them leaves them lasting for years.

I'm always keeping my eyes open for smartwool cycling socks. These are very nice socks, not thick or bulky at all. The weave is very tight and they have warn well. I never dry my cycling socks. I bought a pair of smartwool arm warmers on sale for $9 and I love them! When I grew up, wool was itchy!

buy "DARN TOUGH" brand from vermont. If you ever wear a hole in them or they wear out they'll replace them for free! (not so much if your wife loses one doing laundry though! DOH
