My family is in Santiago though, so I might be biased.

I'm a member of LAB and LIB, and one of them includes a subscription to bicycling mag with membership, so I see it every month. Sometimes I spend a half hour going through one, sometimes I don't even look at it all. It's geared more for racer wannabe's that buy expensive bikes and only ride for recreation.

Bicycle times is a little better.

If you want REAL in depth product reviews, DC Rainmaker. Most of the products, though, are the higher price tag items. Better than anything you're likely to read in a magazine.

There's definitely a fetish for steel bikes (for credit-card touring, gravel grinding, etc.) but I think the average is more like 25#. It's definitely geared towards commuting (this is the commuting sub-forum, after all), not club rides or racing. Expensive? seems like they average about $1500 which isn't expensive imho.

I'm biased though, since Bicycle Times and Dirt Rag are both local (Urban Velo too, for that matter) and tend to reflect the bikes that are best for where I currently live.

I've spent that much on about half of my bikes, but it think even half the people on this forum (to say nothing of the average bike commuter) spent less than that on the bike they ride to work.

Some people do tour. Bicycle Times is geared to your non racer who mostly pedals pave. The commuter, cargo bike touring kind of rider. I find it enjoyable and worthwhile.

Buycycling is mostly ads for stuff I don't need. Bicycle Times would have been great for me when I started commuting, but I'd already found this site to answer my questions by the time I found Bicycle Times.

I picked up a copy once. I found myself amazed that there was anyone in the world that cared about what they were writing about.

Also I don't know how magazines stay in business. They pretty much have what we all read online 3 months ago.

this is the only magazine i subscribe too. I like because it covers a variety of cycling disciplines.

+1 for Bicycling Times. At times they stray away from commuting topics but for the most part it is more along the line of everyday biking. I like when they review gear and equipment that I may consider buying.

I prefer Momentum magazine for information relevant to commuters and urban biking. I like the gear guides and photo essays and have purchased a few useful things after seeing them featured in an issue. I stopped reading Bicycling long ago because nothing in it seemed relevant to me, and I let my subscription to Bicycle Times lapse because there is not enough eye candy and too many of the articles are poorly written. (Although, in their defense, I find too many poorly written articles in most magazines and newspapers these days.)

They moved bikesnobnyc's column to online only (which they later share from their Facebook page for free). I probably won't renew unless it is for one of the kids' fundraisers or if I find it for $4-$6 again.

I'll second this. I used to love this mag. It's really changed since the 90s. I don't subscribe anymore, but now every now and then it sucks me in and I grab it at the newsstand and then I get home and read it and wonder why did I buy that? Yeah, 20k bikes are interesting to a point.....but EVERY month? Why not a good review of a Trek 1.5 that real people can afford? Bicycle Times seems much more in tune with the type of bike I am interested in.

Sure, the internet is great, but sometimes I want to enjoy a magazine or book in good old fashioned, paper format. Both mediums have their place, and always will.

Bicycle quarterly has some great articles. Their tire tests comparisons are very well done as are a lot of the bike reviews. Kind of a niche but when their content is good it's really good.

Pre wifi, my dad worked with a guy who put cat5 in his bathroom, so he could use the internet while ****ting.

If nothing else, this thread has done a great job of introducing many of us to magazines we've never heard of. I've checked out Bicycling Times, Urban Velo, and Momentum and I really liked all of them. Are there any others that are geared toward everyday bikers?

Add my voice to the chorus. I really enjoyed Bicycling from 1980 through about 1993 or thereabouts. Never missed an issue, and didn't like the winter months when I'd have to wait two months for an issue. I could kick myself for not keeping all the issues. All I have is maybe 20 issues left from those days, plus a lot of Bicycle Guide, Cyclist and the odd issue of Bicycle Sport. I leaf through the magazine when I'm at the library, but never find anything worth buying the magazine for anymore.

No magazines to add besides the previously stated, but we could start talking suggested blogs and magazines... Prolly is not Probably, Red Kite Prayer , Bicycle Retailer and Industry News are some of my favorites...

I'm not a fan. It is oriented toward what is popularly being sold in large bike stores - right now: road and mountain.
As others have mentioned, this site is of greater value. I do subscribe to Bicycle Quarterly, and enjoy it.
