Bike parking in Copenhagen

Most of us don't have these parking problems.

BBC News - Copenhagen's piles of bicycles

I used to have this so-called problem in Heidelberg, DE, but enjoyed every minute, rather than whine about it like a few of the jokers in the article.
My bike up front at the Heidelberg Main Train Station:

The only problem is finding your bike. ;)

it's not that bad.

Nørreport station has just been renovated with bike parking.

It's been a while, but this is outside Copenhagen Central Station. Never did see anyone actually putting a bike on that second level, not sure how they did it.

There was a horror movie made about this called "China Syndrome".

Amsterdam Centraal Station about 2001 or 2002. Steps and rail on side of steps for bike tire to get to upper level. Similar to the setup at many train stations and plazas in NL and DE.

That's what I'd be concerned about.

We just left ours on the street. No problem. Most of the mornings it was tipped over but it was a hip/high traffic area so roll with a beater.

Yeah, København H - they were doing renovations at the time and had a bunch of these temporary bike parking things all around.

ok, that makes more sense.

i never saw dual-tiered when I lived there and that picture looks to be mid-80s or so.

that's for the photos.

i do miss CPH a great deal. London has nothing on it ... except more airports for holidays.

December 2000. Christmas in Denmark was one of the favorite events of my life.

To be honest, I found it quite slow compared to Germany. Very pleasant but missing some ommpppph.

We lived right near the Danish version of the German Christmas market and my German partner was none to impressed.

However, it was very classy on the whole, moreso than in Germany.

It is not that hard; just like a mama penguin can always find its own chicks.

Reports are that theft is a significant problem in 'bike paradise'. In such a sea of bikes, who would notice someone bent over for a couple of extra seconds? The answer of course isn't to have fewer cyclists but to individually use quality locks and technique and organize all those cyclists politically to demand/force/cajole the authorities into cracking down on bike theft.

Looks like any Dutch train station. I've never seen so many bike in one place.

I only wish that were the kind of bike parking problem I have. Instead I have the problem of either, not enough bike racks, or none to be found. Places within the city of Denver are usually pretty good about having racks, but out in the burbs, even the old burbs like where I live, there are very few racks.

I was in Copenhagen and I was able to experience Central station and the bike problem. Try to find your black bike amongst all other black bikes!

In Toronto we have to lock to immovable objects like bike racks, or your bike is more likely to get stolen. There are not enough bike racks for everyone. Sometimes I have to go blocks to find a place to lock my bike. I have started using my Brompton because I can just carry it without having to worry about locking it somewhere.

My time in Tokyo and Osaka also showed me the problems they are having with bike parking. Japan has some innovative solutions but they are also very strict of where you can park your bike. Lots of "no bicycle parking signs" abound.

Worse or Better? Depends on your perspective. If you consider these train station bike parking situations bad, there are lots of train stations and other attractions in the U.S. that you might find blessed with zero bikes cluttering up the parking lots or sidewalks at any time night or day.

Haha! I've been there. Also, first place I ever rode in a Mercedes Taxi.
