Saddle bags
Hello everyone!
So I'm basically looking for a moderately large saddle bag in which I can fit the essentials when I'm not carrying a backpack/messenger bag: wallet, phone, keys, spare tube and so on, but that can be carried away of the bike relatively easy, optimally with a sling. Does this even exist? If so, where can I find it? Thanks! |
Look at Carradice with a Bagman quick release. I'm not sure about a sling, but I've put a backpack in the saddle bag and then when I got off the bike I took the backpack out and put the saddle bag in it.

Carradice Panniers
I love my Carradice Originals Kendal Panniers but I do have to say the clamps do not prevent the pannier from sliding forward on the rack. When they slides forward, I suffer heel strike. Therefore, I zip tie the clamp on the bag to the rack so it does not slide. This solves the heel strike problem, but the bags cannot be removed without snipping the zip ties.

Love my carradice Nelson long flap for the commute. I did a DIY Quick relese hack and put in hooks in place of the saddle straps. Have a shoulder strap too. Pops on and off in a jiffy. Holds my laptop, change of clothes, lunch, pump and small tool kit.. Using the Classic bagman rack to keep it stable behind the seat.

A bit of DIY. get a couple D rings some small P clips to go around the straight part of the D, and some sheet metal screws with a round head..
screw thru the canvas into the end of the wooden dowel supporting the Carradice bag , and you have someplace to clip a strap onto .. Alternatively Rixen & Kaul -Klick-Fix makes a number of bags that use rear facing seat post mounts they also make including an actual backpack ,, and theres the Carradice SQR http://www.carradice.co.uk/index.php...product_id=138 http://www.carradice.co.uk/index.php...&product_id=57 |
Jandd duffel rack pack holds a lot plus Jandd stuff is really well made. Just add the optional shoulder strap and a rack for the bag and you're good to go.
By the way, I use my duffel rack pack a lot and like it. The bag, rack, and strap will cost less than a carradice bag and the rack for those bags is expensive. |
I like eBay for saddlebags. Some nice ones here:

A Carradice bag with their Bagman rack, quick release version, would work great. You can easily attach a shoulder strap to any Carradice bag. They have metal rings in the top corners for that purpose. I've used a Carradice Barley as my main commuting bag for 7+ years, just recently switching to their Pendle bag, which is the next size larger. If you order direct from Carradice in England, they have much better selection than US dealers and lower prices. Even with shipping, you save a lot. Remember to subtract the VAT when calculating prices; I think that reduces the price by about 15% if I recall correctly.
