Kendas?
 

I just bought a new set of Kenda K847 Kross + Wire Bead Bicycle Tires for my commuter, read some great reviews, but would like to hear some feedback from real people..

I had some Kenda K191s and they lasted about 800 miles on the rear and about 1000 on the front.

Honestly, I wasn't very impressed except with their original colour ... bright green!

Thanks for the info.. I ride a gary fisher advance converted to commuter, ordered the 26x1.95's, i can still return these since they havent been installed... what would you recommend?

Also, due to the awesome road conditions here in NC LOL I need something that can withstand potholes, gravel roads and trails, etc...

I had bad luck with a Schwalbe Lugano (split after 150km) which pains me to type.

I've good luck with Gatorskins so far (1000+km) size 23-622.

I'd check out Schwalbe Big Apples or one of the Marathon series.

Rolling with that very tire. Too early in their life cycle to give a good review (about 150 miles) but I'm happy so far. One puncture from a thorn just to the side of the smooth band in the center which seems thicker than the rest of the tire. If you do use them consider thick tubes or even Slime.

i ride in the Piedmont Triad and I am rolling Michelin city with Protek. I had a flat after 3200 miles when the sidewall blew out. pretty good and fast tire rolling over the gravel at Salem Lake, glass in the bike lanes, and i try to avoid potholes. (not many on my route)

It seems that Kenda tires have improved. The brand used to make only crappy tires. I still wouldn't trust them. I'm sure some of their tires are really very nice, but if I get a Panaracer or Continental or Vittoria tire, I'll know it's a good tire.

I rode at least 1500 miles on those exact tires. I got mine for around $12 each. For the price, they're quite good. Smooth ride like a slick tire, but the blocks on the sides help grip a little on trails. I only got one puncture from glass, though the roads/trails I normally rode were pretty clean. The rear tire became a little misshapen and so I tossed it, but it held up quite well.

OEM tires on my 2 bike trailers are Kenda.

As described above I had an imperfection in the carcass appear on the rear and I rode it until it blew out. About 800 miles or so. The front wore through the tread in 1000 miles or so. Not bad for 6 USD tires but tubes aren't free!

Rubena are decent cheap tyres. Kenda are not good enough IMO.

I've had Kwests on several bikes,and never had any issues. They're not in the same league as Schwalbe,but they don't cost as much either. Note,the share bikes in both DC and NYC run Kendas,and I've only ever seen maybe a half dozen with flats around here.

I had some Kenda Kontenders on a fixed gear, once. Surprisingly, they held up for quite a while considering I skidded with them A LOT.

I had nothing but flats with the kwests I had. They were absolutely destroyed by glass-the rear made it less than 200 miles before it needed a boot and the front lasted about 800 miles before it suffered the same fate. They also felt like they were flat even when fully inflated. Probably the worst tires I have ever ridden.

I think I'm gonna hold on to them and give them a whirl. I mean really, for what I paid for them if they last a thousand or more then is say I got my $'s worth out of them. I they give me problems then I can always go with something better right? Curious though, any recommendations for tubes anyone?

Nimbus Armadillos worked well for me on my Miyata ridge Runner converted to commuter. Bullet proof.

Im fairly new to the area. What's it like riding at Salem Lake?

Salem lake is pretty flat gravel path around the lake. I think it is 6.97 miles or so around the lake. I can ride on the Michelin City 15-17mph on the gravel no problem. I do have to slow sometimes since the front tire has a tendency to kick out. It never did that with my Cyclocross Kenda Kwik that came on the bike. The side lugs really help it grip around the turns. You just have to watch out for the runners with headphones on. They don't pay attention to anything. :lol:

Have a Kenda Kwik Trax oon rear. Best tire i ever put on a bike, 5 months later. :)

That would be great, but possibly after the Thanksgiving holiday, my work schedule is far too demanding to do anything other than commute as of right now. Send me a message around the end of November and we can do that. I may be able to muster up a couple of others to join as well. Thanks for all I the comments and advice.
