I've never noticed any wear from riding either, perhaps the difference is the type and material of seat used that matters.

True. For easy example, the top of the seat on the uptown is a very non-sticky water resistant material, and the sides are (if you note the images i've posted places) very easily stripped of its surface layer & is a typical heavy gauge vinyl stitched right to the higher quality stuff that sits up top. No real wear aside from cosmetic, but you can apply that same logic if you take one type of fabric, it can wear easily, and a different type of same fabric can be far less wear resistant in that spot/application.
