Brrrr. Just arrived at work and it's 60* in Sunnyvale right now.:)

scroca 11-14-14 11:32 AM

It was -10F a couple of days ago. Pretty windy too.

Today it was much warmer at a little over 0F. It's already up to 14F and the wind has died down.

I feel sorry for those in places like CA, TX, AZ, etc who have to contend with the heat.

TransitBiker 11-14-14 01:13 PM

Outing good thus far, N360 hub seems ok. Warmed a whole 2 degrees to 39, wind chill below freezing.

Business as usual really, just new bike's first cold season. :)

On a side note, my nice new jeans are too tight when thermal pants are on... gotta wear my old big jeans. :D

I just got back. It was only about 4.5 miles round trip. I rode along the river, so it was windy. But it's really a nice day. The sky is clear, and the air pressure is high. We just need to bundle up and pedal harder.

Yes, it is a very windy waterfront. Very windy.

enigmaT120 11-14-14 03:09 PM

32 degrees and raining hard. I'm amazed the road wasn't icy.

takenreasy 11-14-14 05:32 PM

It did drop quite a bit here in northern VA but still in the positive double digits.

jaxgtr 11-14-14 05:59 PM

45F this morning, cold for this time of year in Jacksonville, topped out at 60, nice riding weather.

scoatw 11-14-14 06:31 PM

What I want to know is, what the heck did we do to deserve this brutal cold snap and early start to winter. Jeez, can't even get acclimated properly. Even Mother Nature is in a hurry these days.

Is that the ride with the new spokes? Cool!

Yes! It feels so much more solid, and "correct" for this application. The big thing I noticed, was that my pedaling felt less springy, in fact no spring to it at all aside from that my shoes contributed. Finally feels solid & like a wheel meant for the job from factory. My pants were a bit snug for pedaling, but it seemed the friction fluid didn't mind the cold. I'll see how it is below freezing in a few days. I'm confident that it will be fine, especially after a few minutes in use. :)

As for me personally, I'm realising that because I can cruise at a higher speed on the uptown vs my old cruiser stuck in 1st gear, the wind resistance is a larger factor, which means slight adjustment in which layers I use on which trips. This will especially be important at night when there is no sun at all for any type of warmth.

Well, it's below freezing... Hub totally unaffected as I thought it wouldn't be. One happy camper right here!

We caused too much global warming and now mother nature is getting a revenge on us.

Early start to winter? We didn't even get snow till the middle of November! That's a month late!

It's kinda of true. Last year we had some pretty cold weather for our Fall soccer league which ends in mid October. This year I wore shorts every game and short sleeves every game except for one.

Often we'd get at least some flurries in October but nothing this year.

TransitBiker 11-17-14 07:45 PM

It's normally not in the 20's here till late December..... gonna hit teens tomorrow. Hope all this rain dries up or it'll be very icy out there.

While I know it is going to get cold here, it would be nice if it slowly came on. It seemed like it went from the 50s F down to the teens in a week. What happened to fall?

In a week?!! Two weeks ago we went from 65F to the teens in 3 hours! We were at 65F at 10 am and by 1pm we were at 15F and it just kept going lower. Two days later the low was -14F. That's nearly an 80F drop in temperature over 48 hours.

El Cid 11-17-14 10:41 PM

It's been hovering around freezing for a week now. I'm into a light jacket, and if it gets a few degrees colder I'll add gloves and a thin sweater.

corrado33 11-18-14 10:23 AM

It was ONLY -9C this morning. I need to stop wearing so much clothing, I was quite hot!

Well, you are in Colorado. I've heard many stories like that about Colorado.

It's still a shock when it happens. I don't recall quite this big a drop in the last several decades either.
