Bicycles Anonymous
.
Hi, my name is Karl, I have an addiction to bicycles and bicycles accessories. It's been two hours since I bought a bike... N+1 strikes again! The worst part was riding it back to work after the CL seller surprised me by responding to my e-mail at 8 in the morning. I was out getting breakfast/dinner (I work nights), and still in scrubs and so didn't have any tools on me. Oh the shame! Several cyclists saw me riding with the saddle super low because I didn't have an allen to raise the seat! |
It's been two hours (almost four now!), where are the pictures?

It's just an old hybrid anyway, I've convinced myself that maybe 700C wheels can handle my Clyde self and that it'd be nice to have a lighter* bike with bigger wheels for some days commutes and for longer pleasure rides. It's a GT Nomad, appears to be a '98. I'll end up replacing nearly everything on it, as is my way, but it is a full 4130 frame, which suits me. If I decide I don't like the bigger wheels (all I've ridden for the past 15 years have been 26 inchers) for one reason or another, I'm not out much expense for an old used hybrid, and yet the frame is just the geometry I like and decent quality, so if I do like it, it'll be acceptable. I was expecting to hear other tales of fellow bicycle addicts and their struggles! * It won't be a whole lot lighter, but I won't be weighing it down with racks and half dozen lights, which should make a noticeable difference. |
I once bought a bike for my daughter from a CL seller in the middle of a workday then rode 7 miles back to the Park and Ride where I had parked in the morning with one hand steering the "new" bike. I've seen guys do that taking their pit bike to the pits at CX races and they make it look easy, but I had a heck of a time with it.
As for N+1, it's been nine months since I bought a bike, and I gave one away a few months after that so it really doesn't count, right? |
I just ordered my Kestrel and had it shipped to a LBS (need it professionally assembled for warranty, otherwise I'd have done it myself). Should be receiving it today. If you don't see anymore posts from me after today it's because my roommates killed me :(

Hi Karl. Welcome, now say it with me...
"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,The courage to change the things I can,And the wisdom to know the difference." Now, enjoy the new ride! |
If I buy all the accessories I want for my bike, it'll almost be enough to buy a new bike. My Specialized Allez has gone to the great bike rack in the sky, so I'm down to a Krampus. I still wanna replace the Allez with a good 'cross bike though. I also want a recumbent and a fat bike. And another road bike. And a dutch commuter.

And here I thought this was going to be about EPO.

I picked up a CL special last week. I posted about it over in C&V (http://www.bikeforums.net/classic-vi...n-prelude.html)
An 89 Schwinn Prelude. Completely unridable at the moment. Needed tires and tubes when I got it, it now also needs brake levers, brake cables and housing. It's going to be a sweet ride once I get those and gove her a goodncleaning and regreasing. |
If a Bicycle rehab existed I'm sure my wife would have checked me in a few years ago...:thumb:

I'm currently planning to add two new bikes within the next year to my stable of 2 - not sure I'll ever get out of the planning stages, but it's fun to dream :) |

Hi, my name is Cyclokitty. I nearly bought a GPS for my bike but I talked myself out of it because I didn't find this thread in time. Next time, I'll check in here first because no one should go without new, shiny bike stuff. Thank you. Where is the table with cookies and juice? |

Pretty proud of myself for resisting the temptation to buy one yesterday. It was a KHS CX200 with 105's. I felt I really needed it, but in the end I decided to no buy a fourth bike in six months.

Then why did you state that you thought the thread would be about "EPO"? O.o
I wasn't expecting some sort of Spanish Inquisition. |
No one expects the Spanish Inquisition!
The grocery store had boxes of Clif bars on sale for 50% off. I was greatly tempted by the boxes of Peanut Toffee Buzz flavour and figured I save them for the spring. But knowing me, I'd eat them while doing time on the trainer. I did not buy them. I have regrets. |

I've definitely never taken EPO prior to a race and I definitely don't know what it is and have never heard of it.

I honestly have zero idea what you are talking about. (Except the Spanish Inquisition part, I get that...)

So, a thread about new bikes, and new bike stuff and no photos still. For shame ..
