Awesome commute in as I complete my five for five this week. Perfect weather and no wind. Can't ask for more...well, getting to bed about an hour earlier would have helped

A good ride this morning. 63F but supposed to get warmer today, possibly 85. The past few days have stayed under 80.

Holy Humidity Batman! It was raining (again) when I woke up... but could see the back end of the storm on radar. So, I decided I'd just go in to work a bit late today and not get completely soaked like yesterday. The streets were obviously still wet, but at least I stayed dry.

Something always keeps me from getting all five days. Our daughter is sick, and I'm staying home with her. Shoot!
Oh well, Monday through Thursday were great days for commuting. Cool in the mornings, warm in the afternoons, still not hot. I can feel that it's coming though.

I've been feeling lazy all week, not in the mood to ride. It's a general funk that goes well beyond anything about cycling. I went to a 12-step program meeting last night to get me back in the right direction, and it helped. So yesterday (Thursday), I forced myself to ride, and I rode gently without gusto in the morning. In the evening, I rode a little harder in order to get to the meeting on time.
Today, I also didn't feel like riding, but I really need to get in some miles as I'm doing a big ride on Sunday. I had hoped to put in some "real" miles this week, but my funk held me back. The ride is Ride the Ridge in the Central Hudson Valley. I signed up for the 50-mile ride, which may be foolish. It promises to be extremely hilly. In my mind, I'm picturing me making a fool of myself, entering the hardest course with the least training. And maybe I will fail to complete the course. But if that happens, I will try not to feel foolish. I don't have many hills on my course, but when I'm on a geared bike, I can pedal up the steepest climbs without any pain. I'm just slow. The climbs on Sunday will be longer. But last summer, I was able to ride over the ridge without any difficulty. I might have enough "base" conditioning to do it.
It's 13 miles each way between home and work. If I ride home today, I will have done 52 miles in two days. I just have to double that on Sunday. That is within the realm of possibility.

When I got up, I thought we were finally getting a break in the relentless rain we've had this week because nothing was showing on the radar. However, I found out otherwise when I went outside to get the newspaper. Another day of heavy mist and drizzle here that is too fine to show up on radar, but heavy enough to soak you in minutes. I went ahead and rode because I had already missed three commutes this week and the forecast is finally calling for clearing skies late in the afternoon. The mist was so heavy that I had to remove my glasses after a while because I couldn't see through them or keep them clear. Other than that, it felt good to be back on my bike and my legs felt great after the rest.
The past few days have felt like fall days.

uneventful! At the end of my biggest week of riding since getting hit by a car a couple years ago my legs are tired. And arms. Not lungs though, so I got that going for me.

5 for 5 for me too, and I think I passed a record number of delivery vans, work trucks and garage sale shoppers on my way in this morning.

What a nice ride this morning. It was about 51 degrees at my house, which made for a cold start but I warmed up once I got off my hill. I could see the Cascade skyline again, at least Mts. Jefferson and the 3 Sisters. I saw a racoon and a turkey with a bunch of babies. The racoon was not at the same place as the turkeys.
I'm planning a longer route home, about 22 miles including the 4 in Salem to get back downtown to the bus station. It's supposed to be warm, but I think I'll have a pretty good cross wind so shouldn't have any trouble.

Summer humidity seems to be in effect. Overcast morning but no rain. Thus a good ride.
I saw a couple of black vultures hanging near the side of the road. I didn't seen any road kill nearby, so not sure what they were hoping for. I'm just glad it wasn't me they were after. Or maybe they were.

Starting out the week with sunny skies after rain nearly every day last week. The temps are supposed to be much hotter, but that's what summer is all about. With the longest day of the year approaching, I'm considering riding my first metric century commute on the greenways. I've ridden half the route on the afternoon leg of my commute a number of times, but have never tackled it both ways on a workday (although many times on weekends). I'll need to hit the road before 6 am to get to work by a reasonable time, but the afternoon heat could be the tough part. Highs are supposed to reach the 90s nearly all week here, with high humidity.

Had a first this morning. A car slide up on my side and a friendly German Shepard greeted me with two loud barks about 3 feet from my left ear. Scared the crap out of me, especially since I didn't know the car (or the dog) was there. I caught up with him at a light and gave him a nice woof back (which I realize now that it probably isn't the greatest idea to encourage dogs to bark at cyclists, but I figured I should at least return the hello).

A very nice ride in this am. I did see another female rider this morning. I am not sure if she is commuting or just or joy riding, either way she was friendly and said hi!

Warmer this morning. Mostly no Wind but very foggy
I tried a helmet Mirror for the first time this morning and so far I'm not a big fan. I have to focus to see in the Mirror and I feel that it take my attention away from the road ahead longer than when I just check quickly over my shoulder.

Bonus commute today. I thought that an approaching cold front would rain me out, but the storms were all passed by the time I got up. Roads were still wet so I had to swap my gear to my touring bike with fenders, but had a very pleasant ride to work despite the high humidity. With a little luck, I should be able to go 5-for-5 commuting this week. That seems to be the rage on this forum these days.

Some tailwinds and some crosswinds last night made for a fun ride home last night. The winds brought in some storms that hit around midnight. We got some much needed rain at my house.
A sticky 92% humidity and 68F this morning. I added a bit on the way in for a little over 14 miles total. I had to creep slowly across a wet wood bridge. I fell there once before and know how ice-like it can become.
On the MUP after that there was a lady walking her dog. She was to the right at first but started wandering toward the middle. I slowed and announced, "On your left." As I expected, she looked over her left shoulder, causing her to walk even further toward the left. All the while the leash and the dog are extending to the right across the path. Once she saw I was coming she quickly got back to the right. Just a typical scenario I have encountered numerous times, but I still wonder why they wouldn't just stay right.

58F, foggy, humid and wet from storms last night. Pretty sure I helped create a bike hater this morning. Crossing a divided road, no traffic to my left and one car coming to my right. I had it timed perfectly to come right behind the car but apparently he was sleeping and woke up when he saw me coming into the median. The guy slammed on his brakes and skidded to a stop - of course I berated him for stopping because he messed my perfectly timed crossing. Oops!

67F and light winds. Nice morning commute.
Over the weekend I did something I've always wanted to do. I rode nearly the entire length of the Katy Trail, which stretches most of the way across the state of Missouri. I believe it's the longest rails-to-trails State Park in the country. We rode 225-miles in two days, and took Amtrak from St. Louis back to Kansas City.

I keep saying 'I'm done riding the this office' and I keep lying. Biked to the 'old office' again today. Great morning weather, temps in the low 60s and no wind. But the ride home will be the hottest of the year, near 90F.
I honestly will be done riding to the office at the end of June, come hell or high water!
edit - I forgot to say that I forgot to bring a lunch... calling Milo's.

Jim had the fat-tire bike. I hate to think what he paid for it, because it's carbon fiber everything. It's the only fat-tire bike I've even seen that weighs less than 20 pounds. Even so... the rolling resistance is still pretty high. He made it about 95-miles on the first day before deciding to throw in the towel. Not sure I could have pedaled that far on that bike.

I ride a street with an elementary school followed by a middle school followed by a high school. Now it's a ghost town (and the quietest part of my commute ).

This morning's commute was great! It was a 37 mile ride through all kinds of different environments. There was only one bad spot. There is construction on a highway bridge over a high speed road and a MUP. The MUP is closed and full of construction equipment and debris, and the road is down to one lane in each direction with no shoulder, and not enough room in the lane for a bike and a vehicle. it is only a little less than 1/2 mile long. I was almost able to make it through between lines of car traffic at 5:30 this morning. It will be more challenging on the way home, when there is a much higher traffic volume. Other than that, it was quiet suburban streets and dedicated city bike lanes the rest of the way in.
