Thinking about this. I am not brand loyal, but I think my Welgo SPD pedals are a bit grippier than the Shimano SPD pedals, although I like the Shimano design with the bearing races that pull out of the pedal body for easy rebuild (haven't tried rebuilding the Welgo yet). With the Shimano pedals, I have to keep the tension set to the point where I can barely get the clips in, otherwise I pull out.
Anyway, I'm getting better at getting the pedals tuned in to the proper tension. However, I think each set of cleats that I have is slightly different. Perhaps they wear a bit too. So, pedals that are set perfectly for one set of shoes is either too tight or too loose for another set of shoes. Anyway, I've considered tossing in the lot of cleats and buying a brand new set of identical cleats for all my shoes (plus a couple of matching spares). |

Sounds pretty serious if you ask me.
http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=438333 Do you think this bell will go well with my pretty pedals? http://www.bikes2udirect.com/bikes_h...tems/A1108.jpg Myself? I prefer a Real Serious Horn that goes well with my Real Serious Pedals: http://www.musicoutfitters.com/ethnic/images/buld.jpghttp://en.hollandbikeshop.com/images/PDU808.jpg |

I'm a bit surprised by the amount of seriousness in a thread that had me busting a gut as I typed it up.
LOOKIE!!! http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=438325 My pedals are pretty and match my bike! :D Almost hot. Camera angle could be improved, needs matching pink aero rim, white saddle does not match, and needs appropriate decals. |
I will often vehemently support clipless, notably MTB pedals/shoes, for commuting. And I really do think they're unbeatable for on-bike handling, comfort, etc... and decent for running into stores.
But my main bike I've been commuting on for the past month has old, crappy platform pedals. And I really like it. Everything about the bike is different though, I go slower, it's a beater so I'm comfortable locking it downtown, etc. I have a completely different mindset on this bike, and it suits me right now. Being able to just hop off your bike you were cruising on and lock it real quick is a lot nicer than hauling around on your expensive CX bike, and then swapping a bunch of clothes and stuff. |
