Too close for comfort once. I was setting up the cycling part of a triathlon once just before dawn. One of the racers was out warming up in black jersey, shorts, gloves, and a dark helmet. No lights or reflectors. I went through a Yield sign as I didn't see anyone. Just missed him. He cussed me out. After the Tri, I had a nice "discussion" with him.

No. I don't own a car, and don't drive much. A couple years ago I was driving my wife's car, just about at dusk, she in the passenger seat. I stopped at a stop sign, looked both ways, and proceeded; and she yelled STOP!. I hit the brakes and narrowly missed a commuter cyclist coming from the left on the road I was crossing. He had right of way and I really should have seen him. His only light was a helmet mounted beam of some kind, quite bright; I'd seen the light, but it hadn't registered as a bicycle in my mind. Whew! I learned something.

No, but i got hit by a Car and the driver happened to be a cyclist . Even though it was a slight hit and nothing really happened he gave me a ride back home. It was a nice thing for him to offer

No, but I remember a scary close-call when teaching my daughter to drive. We were on a one-way parkway* around a lake (Lake Harriet, to people that know Minneapolis). She signaled right turn approaching a stop sign, after stopping and checking for cross traffic, she started turning and an overtaking biker damn near slammed into our car. Basically, the guy on the bike put himself in position for a right-hook; he's moving fast, past a line of cars approaching a stop sign, and the rider showed no intention of stopping for the stop sign. Not bright at all. And my kid and I got chewed out... I just asked my daughter to drive on, we didn't hit the rider and he was just raging.

I love when somebody does something dangerous and dumb, then blames everybody else for the stressful situation.

* edit, I should add, there is only one lane, no turn lanes, the riders was splitting between the parked cars and the traffic lane.

Not that I'm aware of. A bike ran into me once, though. No injuries. Said his brakes didn't work very well.

No, actually I just got a car last year for the first time in my 36 year old life. Really, it's not even mine, technically it belongs to my girlfriend, but close enough.

My grandpa hit a guy years ago, when I was a kid. Thankfully the cyclist wasn't seriously injured, but it was a clear sign that grandpa's driving days should have already been over.

Fourteen years ago when I took sailing lessons at Queen’s Quay in Toronto returning home after one of my classes on the weekend I was slowly and leisurely following a cyclist. Then all of a sudden he fell. Luckily I had been following at a safe distance so no collision. He got up. Got back on his bike and we all continued on.

No...but I have had someone run into me. Years and years ago, I was sitting at a red light and some college student just rode off the sidewalk and smack into my passenger side front quarter panel. I have had only one serious close call though in a car with a massive blind spot in a traffic circle. He and I were going at just the right speeds and thank God I saw him...and he saw me... in time to stop.

I had a bicyclist run into the side of a pickup truck I was driving in Eugene Oregon. I was coming out of an alley onto a, not busy and residential, one way street. The cyclist was riding on the sidewalk going the wrong way at considerable speed. I had slowly crept forward checking for peds on the sidewalk and he smacked right into the side. Got out to check that he was okay and considering the speed at which he struck suggested that medical attention might be prudent. He was a bit dazed but got his wits back together and after a bit of time and conversation and a quick medical check by me, he rode off. I felt terrible although feel that the cyclist made a poor decision to ride fast down a sidewalk with blind driveways and alleys.

I came close to hitting one. Was not happy with myself about it. But I was also frustrated that the bicyclist wasn't using the designated bike lane.

I was a cyclist that hit a car once, well, grazed it more like. I was out on a triathlon course preview ride. On a main road going at a decent clip, I suddenly realize I need to turn right. A small pick-up truck was waiting there to turn after I passed. I turned into where he was sitting, but because of my speed I had to turn wide. The only contact was my left forearm and his driver side rear part of the pick-up bed. I managed to use my arm to keep my bike from hitting his truck at all. I didn't stop and just kept going. I don't know if he even noticed I did it.

A few year back (before I started commuting by bike), I nearly ran over a cyclist which squeezed in between my car and the sidewalk while I was turning right.

He was lane splitting and thought he had enough time to overpass me on the right before I started rolling; luckily he wasn't hurt and after apologizing, we both went on our way.

Nope. Other than the minivan I rear-ended at very low speed in December 2003, I have never hit anyone or anything with my car.

Can't say the same about other cars hitting my car. But I'm still driving the same car today, just not nearly as much as I used to.

no, but i did pass a cyclist in manhattan thru tight road conditions due to construction. we were all going very slow. the lady then proceeded to assault my car (hitting my window), yelling and screaming, then spit on my window. i wanted to tell her there's nothing for me to do, there were exactly two lanes and she wasn't exactly taking the lane she was off to the side, and people behind me would have honked if i didn't, b/c we all wanted to make the light. but she was too crazy (as are half new yorkers!) and had to keep my window rolled up for fear of her acting out. couldn't talk to her or anything. oh well. i'll always remember! that's for sure.

do you mean did i pass her in the same lane? yes i did.

as for whether i was close, i would say there was two feet as it was one lane. it wasn't a secret though, other cars before mine were all passing her. she was aware there was a steady stream of traffic all funneling into a small space.

moving was slow for cars, i'm not sure why she didn't cycle faster, she certainly could have gotten herself out of that road with construction. maybe she was going slower and exercising due care. i'm not sure.

No. But I've hit/slapped motorvehicles over a hundred times (lost count several decades ago when I was a much, much more aggressive cyclist).

No, but I nearly doored one once. Really stupid thing to do especially for a cyclist like me, that was years ago and since then I made it a point to always look back before opening my door. And yes, I've been doored a couple of times myself.

So the little road leading out of my office has a nasty blind corner if someone parks there on the side of the road. It's illegal, there's a no parking sign, but people park there all the time. I was inching out slowly with my view completely blocked by this illegally parked car, and as my bumper inched past it I heard the screeching of brake pads on a rim. Didn't hit me or anything (that's why I was inching forward and not just pulling out blindly!) Worst part was the poor guy waved and said "Sorry man!", and I'm thinking, sorry for what!? He had the right of way! The whole experience made me so mad I put a note on the minivans window and called the local PD. Sure enough, when I got back from my errand, the van was being loaded onto a flatbed tow truck.
