Tear Gas and COVID-19

CS tear gas in internationally proscribed, but it is still deployed in the US for crowd control. As a respiratory irritant whose application results in copious production of mucus and tearing, it can be problematic under pandemic conditions. It might also have other dangerous consequences in the context of the current pandemic.

Here is a report from Ars Technica: https://arstechnica.com/science/2020...-the-pandemic/

Texas should secede. Keep the tear gas... we have warm water ports and plenty of oil and high tech industries. And the people are all armed which is good. My Texas brothers and sisters help each other out no matter what race or whatever! Doesn’t matter. I have seen the real colors of people and I’m happy with what I see and yes you Sooners on the other side of the Red River are very welcome as you will be to us I had to throw that in there because I love college football.

Portland protesters sue police for using tear gas during George Floyd protests

Many of the issues above were mentioned as well as forcing a person who may already be sick to cough in the middle of a crowd.

It's banned in war as a chemical weapon, but the president can use it to deprive innocent people of their civil rights to take a blasphemous picture.

Sadly, there is an exception to those conventions that permit its use for domestic crowd/riot control. Recall going through it in basic taining, not fun! Left a lasting memory.. 54 years ago.
The argument for permitting domestic use was, without it authorities might resort to more lethal actions. My feelings are more along the lines, "we can legally use it, so let's use it." I believe it's one of those "green lights" some police use to justify their actions.
