COVID 19 weight gain

I’ve put on a few unwanted pounds since this COVID-19 virus hit. Nothing major but unwanted nonetheless.. Luckily I can ride my bikes from home but then sitting around slamming beer and eating unhealthy food fills the void of boredom. Must work on self discipline and burn off this developing beer gut before it’s really becomes one. I think a healthy salad and iced tea instead of beer and nachos is in the works. Things are getting scary here in Texas the cases as you all know are spiking really bad. Didn’t take my boat out today as planned because of the crowds and I’m thinking about having food shipped here via Fed Ex or UPS. I will get on the bike later today and start burning off the beer fat and not replace all the calories I burned with beer I can see when or if this virus goes away there will be an exercise boom like you see after New Years then after 2 weeks most quit start eating doughnuts and guzzle beer. I guess time will tell. How are you all staying motivated to ride during this crummy time? I need some inspiration..

I'm trying to settle in for the long haul. I can do bike rides but I will have to be very careful around people until I can get vaccinated or my housemate situation changes. Vaccine in what, March if we're lucky? Housemate leaving probably means he got sick and that won't turn out well. I'm using books I've read recently on life in wartime Germany for inspiration. The city dwellers wondered every morning who wouldn't be answering the call after last night's air raids. (Sadly, it seems we are doing our best to achieve that reality.)

Go for 2-3hr ride every morning. You get 1 daily beer per hour - that is it. No pro-rating and no rounding up.

Just to be clear I meant per each hour of riding that day, not for each hour of the day.

You might want to hydrate before downing that 6 pack (or are you a 4 pack century rider?)

Doesn't matter. It is per hour of saddle time.

I put in a 3 hour ride this evening so I get 3 beers. But I’m burned out on beer so 3 glasses of tea.

Health problems (nasty crash then unexplained infections) have kept me of the bike more than I'd like for the last 6 months and I'm just getting back to doing very short rides in the hood during the week. No lengthy mountain climbs and the like.

Common sense would say I'd have put on at least some of the infamous COVID 15, but I've actually lost a couple of pounds. Bizarre. I've always thought cycling kept my weight down. Maybe not.

I've lost weight, but I coincidentally made an effort to start biking more in the evening. I do reward myself with a beer with lemonade drink when I get home.
