...it's the NY Times, and they took away their paywall for Covid 19 stories a month or two ago. Maybe this will work.

I read that this morning. Yeah, we aren't as "normal" as we like to think. We happily accept s*** that would be a reason for riots or more in other countries. Watching young people from other countries simply blown away because we accept "that" (and there were several "that"s); pretty sobering.

Normal - Websters New Collegiate Dictionary, 1953: ... 3. Geom. a. any perpendicular; spec., a line or plane perpendicular to the tangent line (or plane) to a (or surface) at a point of the curve (or surface). ...

There is a clear line (or surface) to travel as a country to minimize this pandemic. But we are Americans. We're normal. (Like in battle, the hardened veterans lie down. We go normal, ie perpendicular, ie we stand up. And like on the battleground, we know where that goes.

I am coming to accept that I probably will get this disease, simply because the safe places to be are going to get fewer and this is going to continue and get worse.

Ben

I will tell y’all this even knowing I vote democratic my house is armed very well I mean no pea shooters. So is everyone else so there is no violence because you know what you are getting into. A good balance and no problems. Social injustices I have witnessed through my life I am against but everyone has the right to bare arms.

The 2nd Amendment gives us the right "bear arms". "Bare arms" comes under the 1st Amendment, Freedom of speech (and dress within reason). I exercise that right when I go to the Red Cross to donate platelets. (Needle in both arms.)

I got my first bit of sunburn a week ago from bare arms. Rode a few hours with a sleeveless shirt and got pink shoulders. Imma demand my rights to bare arms without consequences. Sunscreen be darned, that's socialism.

Semi-seriously, which is all the seriously I can muster, I never thought I'd see the US become so enamored of anti-science conspiracies and tribalism over something like a virus. I've been a fan of conspiracy theories for decades. Way back in the 1960s as kid I'd dig through obscure magazines and books for that stuff. It was fascinating. And it seemed harmless because it was fringe stuff. I couldn't imagine it becoming mainstream and actually crippling an entire nation.

It's gotten so bad I blocked several longtime online acquaintances and even a few relatives last week, just to prevent myself from saying something that would permanently and irrevocably damage our friendships. I'm gonna wait a year or four or ten and check back with them. Assuming we're all still alive then.

I wish my grandmother was still alive to consult her astrology charts. Clearly Uranus has trined Merde and we're surrounded by Klingons. There's no other answer for this.

If you are led by clowns it is not surprising you end up in a circus. This entire circus is unraveling but I hope enough is left to repair.

Big frat groups of 50+ at Golden gardens playin' beer pong, spitting beer on each other, shouting, rolling in the sand coughing.

Sadly, there are foreigners who want to be just like us....

https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/01/world...ntl/index.html

big surprise - the ones who respond like our "we should be free to spread the disease" contingent are German neo-nazis.

I don't think ice cream trucks allow perm occupancy. That's the cold truth, of my opinion.
