The NFL

Maybe ameriKa will become more self aware If the NFL season is interrupted. The Titans & Vikings are currently under a COVID watch. This occurred despite massive testing & isolation protocols. Schools are far less protected than the NFL. The social implications of NO FOOTBALL transcend politics in many regions. The public in Texas is clamoring for open sports & social venues. The NFL season may be the COVID benchmark and even effect the 2020 election. If the NFL suspends play Trumps "reopening" rhetoric will be drastically muted.

As an Eagles fan, suspension is looking good right now.

The only reason I'd care a tiny bit is because our misplaced emphasis on sports happens to affect employment of many ordinary folks and their families. I feel badly for them.

But the team owners and corrupt politicians and power brokers who tricked taxpayers into subsidizing a non-essential enterprise can eat a bug. I have zero respect for any professional sports con artist tent show that takes a dime of taxpayer money in subsidies and "incentives." Let 'em pay their own way, 100%. Same with any private enterprise that rigs the system to trick or compel taxpayers into subsidizing businesses.

agreed. much of the country is still in denial but if said denial country loses their 3x weekly excuse to get blastoed and check out of reality, bleep will get really ugly.
you saw how denial country felt about players not named tim tebow kneeling during the national anthem. anticipating/expecting lcd oodles of brandished firearms-again.

The bubble paradigm seems to be going well for the NBA so far. Maybe the NFL should have taken a similar strategy.

Not so much a fan of organized sports as a lot of others are, but I guess I am in the minority here, as I applaud the attempt to find ways back to some semblance of normalcy, and I'd rather see them succeed than fail.

I need my football it is a religion and a disease that has no cure. I turn on a game on the outside radio as I’m doing chores. On the radio you don’t see the empty stadium. I did catch the last quarter of the Jets on TV last Thursday. Several personal fouls in the last few minutes was extremely poor sportsmanship as the venture their way to 0-16.

> there is nooooo way that the NFL can make it work .... it's a sad comment on priorities that the Fla. Guv De Santis declared that the Dolphins stadium can allow 60,000+ plus into the games > like are there 60,000 people in Fla that are dumb enough to risk death for the Dolphins > Yeah, that's a dumb observation

Not surprisingly, Covid is starting to affect game schedules. NE has had an outbreak and it sounds like the Titans are a real mess. They are discussing if the Titans should be punished by forfeiting their next game.

You may be right. It seems like there's a new wave hitting the players and there are only so many backups to draw from.

I'm a little surprised the sports teams are so invested in COVID when most of their players should be low risk MILLIONAIRES. Of course, there are the coaches, staff, owners, etc who are potentially at much higher risk.

Nonetheless, while the NFL may be struggling, the NBA has been COVID-free, and playing games. Chicken Wings not allowed.

more schedule juggling as the COVID spreads and the games become problematic ..........................aside from whether you like NFL football, there is a metaphor unfolding on the sports pages that foretells of life and illness in the years to come

Fortunately the NBA is still playing. They'll probably take a short break soon, and be back at it.... WITHOUT COVID.

....... do you think the NBA "bubble" approach is a workable model going forward? They have managed to isolate an entire workforce for 6+ weeks. The NFL is just too unwieldy of an operation for a bubble.

Bigger teams, more staff, but the concept is the same.

How many more cases until they just shut down the season, or decide just to ignore the disease and suffer the consequences?

Or, one can completely eliminate the risk, and safely play. Not easy to do, but not impossible either.

Or, one could send all the teams off to Australia for 6 months to quarantine, then play in a lower risk environment.
