Lockdown
We are just getting out of lockdown next week and I can’t wait! But thinking of getting a bike so that I don’t have to take public transport.

I got started cycling over 30 years ago, because my ship went into drydock across the St Johns rivers in Florida, which required paying a $1.50 one way to cross the river via a ferry or drive way south, then west to cross a bridge and then drive back north and east to get to the drydock yard.
Or, I could ride a bike across the ferry for 10 cents on a bike. I was soon riding my bike everywhere and even at one point had a 50-mile round trip to work and home when I was stationed in Virginia. The funny thing was, that it took me about the same time to do that transit on back roads than others who lived near that drove on busy rush-hour highways.
The rest is history.

Too many people I know have lost their jobs because of this and I cannot treat the lockdown as something positive.

Too many individuals have lost their lives to this because of people who refuse to take even minimal precautions like wearing a face-mask and avoiding large gatherings of people. Now it is more than the 9-11 death toll every day, and wing-nuts keep claiming it is a hoax.

I haven't bike commuted in recent years but restarted when the plague hit for one weekly ride to work and back to pick up supplies (a permitted trip and I work safely at home most of the time) and I doubt I will be going back to the bus when work resumes. Now that it is cold I don't even have to worry about breathing other bikers' exhaust, but I wear a KN95 outside 100% of the time (I won't ride bike paths or lanes and change routes when there are too many people on my street.) In general I feel safer in the street than on foot.
Like the OP, it will be a long time before I will use public transit again!

What "lockdown"?

Yup, something simple as wearing a light mask isn’t that much to ask. Too many selfish people doing more harm. Humans can be disgusting creatures I guess I hate myself and my species.

I'm not wearing a mask just because of a stupid flu hoax. I'm wearing it so the government AI cameras can't track me.

I'm blasting The Chipmunks Christmas via our outdoor speakers for the benefit of all of our neighbors enduring isolation.

When I was in S California years back I think I ran into the Joshua tree that was on one of the U2 albums. Worn down trail off the highway to a Joshua tree that was all vandalize and you could see junk fans left behind. Slowed down to peek from the road but cruised on. Not 100% sure that was the tree or it was just rumored to be.
