Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like :The Dirty Kanza". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Gearing and rear der questions.

New to Gravel Grinding and have a couple questions.
I currently ride Fuji Cross 1.3 with 46/36 Chain Rings and 11/28 rear cassette. Problem is I'm old, fat, and the hills around here are a ***** for now.
I have a compatible 11/36 cassette I installed and of course the Sram Rival 10 spd rear derailleur will not play with it so I am wanting to install a Sram x9 10spd rear derailleur. Big question is what length cage do I need, medium or long?

I tried cage length calculators and not sure if my dyscalculia kicked in and I entered the numbers in correctly or what but I got some conflicting numbers back.
Also, I already have inline cable adjusters, would I need an adjusting barrel on the rear derailleur?

Thanks in advance!

Both the Medium and Long cage x9 deraileurs will work with a 36Tmax cog size. The chain wrap capacity is what is needed with the 11-36 and 36-46 gearing.

36-11=25 in the rear and 46-36= 10 in the front. Total chain wrap is 10+25=35T.

The x9 medium cage is rated for 37T so it should work if you get the chain length just right. Long cage will easily work.

Your inline barrel adjust er will work fine to adjust the cable tension.
