QR is not a problem for me, as long as you use a good one like shimanos. This is my second CAADX, this one is setup for commuting and gravel grinding. I raced my first CAADX before upgrading to a SuperX for cross racing but it does do well, great balanced geometry. What frame are you going to?

Sure. It's 9 speed mountain bike gearing with grip shift. 44/34/24 and 11-34. I am a flatlander from below sea level. I have really appreciated that gearing out here. I added the road bike bar ends for the different hand positions they offer.

The calf tat is a cat (surprise!) - one on each leg. I have other tattoos that have deeper meanings, but these were really just for fun.

^^ that photo makes me want to go for a trail run.
Stunning. Scenery, composition, bike, everything. I love the large tree to the left as contrast to the smaller trees in the background.

I love seeing everyone's pics of gravel roads in the forest. My gravel is endless miles of desert.
Anyway, went for a quick gravel ride with the SO to try my 'new' 2x10 configuration. Crankset is 44/28 and cassette 11-36. Sweet, sweet, low gears.

There was a great thread in the SSFG forum where people used MS Paint to diagram their worst accident.

Whitehorse and Three Fingers. From somewhere between Lake Cav and Oso.

It's been a while since I've been on that road in the daytime. My most recent ride there was the night before Thanksgiving. The following image was taken looking "the other way", toward the mouth of the valley. The glow in the sky on the left is light from Arlington, visible over the top of Ebey hill.
It's too bad my phone camera can't handle darker images. There was a thin cloud layer covering half of the sky across a sharply-defined boundary, terminating toward the valley exit, which looked super cool.
But it was a very dark night. It began to drizzle as I approached Lake Cavanaugh, and in the darkness of the hills, the corona effect caused the big powerlines over Granstrom Road to visibly glow, blue soft arcs off into the distance. I tried to capture that on my phone as well, but the camera was nowhere near capable for the job.
Which direction were you going? The road downhill from where these photos are taken is quite steep, and pretty loose in dry weather... somewhat unnerving to descend!

@HTupolev I was hoping you'd see that.
I love your shot, would have liked to get that boulder in it. A couple had parked their truck in that corner, they were sitting down together enjoying the view when I rolled by.
I was feeling a bit listless that day, I wanted to get out of town and ride in nice scenery, but didn't want a long drive, and couldn't decide where. So I parked in Arlington and asked my Garmin for a route. It sent me clockwise, first north on highway 9, then to the east. I was coming down that hill, and indeed, the bike almost slid out from under me taking a dusty corner too tight. I'm on 33 mm worth of rubber, it was exciting!
It looks like there's a massive waterfall coming down from Three Fingers. I need to get in and see it.

I love seeing pictures of the desert! A few trees here and there are nice, but I miss wide, open landscapes.

I did a lot of combinations with gear calculators and this one gave me a range close to my old 48-36-24 triple with 12-32 cassette. I lost some top speed but I'm more grateful to have the lower gears. Bonus points because I was able to re-purpose my old triple crankset (just changed the chainrings).
I do love the desert e but it gets old lol. In September I'll bring my bike along on my holiday to the central valleys, looking forward to some gravel grinding in a different ladscape
