Man, you read my mind. Same thing...riding up a favorite trail and made it OK but could've been way more efficient with even a single easier gear. Would love to know how this goes for you.

Don't hold your breath. I'm notorious for waiting for the stock parts to let me down before upgrading, and more importantly, it appears that the 11-36t cassettes are 10-speed cassettes or mountain cassettes. Not sure whether the 10-speed cassette would work, but the mountain cassette would require a new hub driver, and it's a little early to make that move. I expect that after market cassettes with 11-speed ranges that parallel the 10-speed offerings will show-up before too long. I may wait for that.

Sram makes an 11 speed 11-36 cassette https://www.backcountry.com/sram-pg-1170-cassette?CMP_SKU=SRM0506&MER=0406&skid=SRM0506-ONECOL-S1136&mr:trackingCode=F711E330-E5A7-E411-9BFE-BC305BF82376&mr:referralID=NA&mr:device=m&mr:adType=plaonline&CMP_ID=PLA_GMm001&utm_source=Google&ut m_medium=PLA&k_clickid=33278b29-4099-413c-b192-e915591cbdb0&gclid=Cj0KCQjw6NjNBRDKARIsAFn3NMqUSxrKA5jWBNNr2RDh3ITXUnk0ygM95V8pjjrUCB3m8rxaLtfI9yQaA hsEEALw_wcB

Sunrace also makes the csrx1.

Thanks! I missed the CSRX1 entirely and mistook the PG-1170 for a mountain cassette. Those are compatible with the Shimano hub driver, yes? (I seem to recall that the Sram and shimano (but not Campy) road hub drivers are the same, despite their 11-speed mountain brethren being different standards. That information could be outdated, however, as standards seem to change all the time.

Yep, shimano and sram cassettes should be interchangeable unless the cassette has a small cog smaller than 11 teeth and needs the xd driver like the sram 10-42 cassette.

It works great. I put an 11-36 on my wife's Expat (4700 Tiagra). Just push in the b-screw a little more and you're off to the races.

I'm dying to see the new 2018 Exploit. I'm interesting in seeing if they simply repaint it like the Expat, or if they change anything. I've been eyeing the Exploit, but also have the Trek Domane ALR 5 Disc and Trek Crossrip 3 in my sights. Both of those have similar specs (except for steel vs. aluminum), yet the Exploit is $200 more than both Treks. Hoping the Exploit comes down in price like the Crossrip 3 did.

My renegade before the wheel swap. I now run a Pacenti Forza rim and 40mm Maxis Ramblers for gravel. You can also see in the pic if you can zoom in that I have swapped the 105 derailleur for an Shimano XT MTB derailleur with a clutch using a Wolftooth TanPan and an 11-40 cassette.

I did this so I could have some piece of mind at Land Run 100 and Dirty Kanza 200. It was definitely a great upgrade and survived both races no problem. Shifting is smooth, the only trouble is when running a 28 tooth or smaller cassette the B-Screw doesn't adjust the cog close enough to the cassette causing some noises when shifting. Anything 32 tooth and up is flawless.

That's a great idea, I didn't think of that.

Did you just replace the cassette, or the crankset, too?

Thanks!

Hi. I decided to buy a Renegade Expat but where I live I have to order it online so I am having some trouble with sizing.

I am 180 cm high, 80 cm inseam and I am trying to decide between size 56 or 54. 56 seems like would fit better except for the standover height, I would probably have my crotch toutching the frame.

Anyone here has a similar height as me? What size do you ride?

I currently ride a giant escape n8 size XL, which is a bit big for me but I actually find it confortable, so I guess I prefer bigger bikes. But I do touch the frame when standing over it.

Thanks

I'm 182cm and ride a 56cm everything. That being said if I was to buy a Renegade I'd get the 54cm, but I like my bikes a tad smaller than bigger. The 54cm is actually more like a 55cm with its 55.1cm effective top tube, and the 56 is more like a 57-58cm with its 57cm ETT. Keep in mind that the renegade has A LOT of steerer. I really think you will like the lower standover of the 54 and with the tall stack you will be able to get your bars high enough.

That's a handsome bike I'd be all over if it thru-axles in the rear.

that's very helpful. I think I'll order the 54 and use a longer stem if needed.

Why is the rear TA so important? Just curious.

Good luck, you're in a tough spot since you're kinda in between sizes. I guess it's easier for me to recommend the smaller bike because you can make it bigger but it's hard to make a big bike smaller. Like the other guy said, find the geometry numbers on your other bike (even though it's a hybrid) and compare them to the Jamis.

edit: If the numbers I just found for your XL Escape are correct then it is waaay too big for you. Giant suggests a rider height of 6'4" for an XL.

My other bike is quite big so that complicates the problem. It has a 82cm standover, but I can still ride and stand on it just fine. It has 42 cm reach which is a bit long for me but I can also ride it for long distances just fine.

I made it. I made that one (my wife's) and mine, Dura Ace arms w/ Ultegra 46/34 rings. Bought an Ultegra crankarm set, DA arms, and then a couple sets of rings. Make sense?

Yeah the numbers you found are correct. It has a 83 cm standover and 42cm reach, which feels a bit longer but I can still stand over the bike no problem though.

The 54 expat has 77 standover which I guess would be enough, but the 56 has already 80 cm standover.
