Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Moving to disc brakes

I am interested in moving to a disc brake equipped cx/gravel bike. I am currently riding a Van Dessel cx bike with cantis. I am looking for something that I can ride in cx races and use for gravel riding. Can anyone recommend a good bike that can handle both? Maybe the average cx bike is fine for gravel. But I see that there is so much sub-specialization in the genre of bikes that makes me question whether one bike can still do the job of two. Thanks

What is your budget? If you can afford to spring for hydraulics like Shimanos--do it, they are far better.

In VA what is your gravel like? As with CX, conditions vary everywhere--I need to go armed for pea-gravel with no compaction that is basically rock-soup, you might not.
