Compiling a list of 46/30 cranksets

Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Compiling a list of 46/30 cranksets

Hi all,

I'm trying to compile a list of 46/30 or similarly geared cranksets as potential upgrades for my Cosmic Stallion.

My only requirements are that it fits a 68mm BSA threaded shell and somewhat matches the aesthetic of a modern gravel bike (i.e., no compass square taper cranks, even though they're beautiful). An oversized spindle would be preferred but a square taper is also fine. I'd also like it to be equivalent quality or an upgrade from the Rival-esque crankset that came stock.

Here's my list so far:

White Industries R30/G30
Sugino OX901D Compact Plus+
FSA Energy Modular BB386EVO
IRD Lobo "Adventure"
FSA OMEGA (I've heard bad things about the proprietary BB)

Did I miss anything obvious? If you're riding one of these, do you like it?

TIA

FSA Modular Adventure SLK...bb386evo

IRD Defiant..sq taper

The later isn't bad...but the former is a pound lighter and much stiffer

Thanks for the link, looks like I already found most everything that's mentioned in that thread.

It's kinda surprising that that is in a 50+ thread, as I feel like people of all ages could benefit from gears smaller than 50 teeth.

I do love all those shiny Compass/Velo Orange/IRD cranks but they would just look too ridiculous on my bike. Someday when I have the money to build up a Rivendell I'll buy some.

Perhaps the 50+ folks were the only cyclists secure enough in their "roadie" identity to admit they could use a smaller crankset...

The VO looked great on my Roadeo.

I think FSA makes almost everything in their line in 30/46 or 32/48 now - happy days.

110-74 triples with a chain-guard disc from an old de toothed chainring outer.. makes a good 'single ring' with a bail out low..

I was curious about them...but Rotor does their best to not make it clear what arms work with what rings.

Only the 24mm or the 30mm? Being keyed and not BCD...Does the BCD spider come off and these go on? For a $400+ system it isn't well documented

Agree, it is not clear. Having said that- in my experience with direct mount rings: spider comes out and they work on both 24 and 30 mm spindles
