Heads up fox, Specialized has a recall on:
https://bikerumor.com/2019/01/09/spe...iverge-sirrus/
I think we have some Diverge owners in here as well as some Roubaix owners.

I really wish these websites would put a date and time stamp on their articles so we could know how recent or old the information is.

Dear Specialized Rider,
Your safety is our top priority. Whenever something happens that may compromise your safety, we take immediate action.Based upon reports from the field, the steerer tube collar on select Roubaix, Ruby, Diverge, and Sirrus bicycles may be susceptible to stress corrosion cracking. When that happens, it may result in a sudden loss of steering control while riding. Click here to view a list of affected models by Model Year.We are voluntary recalling the steerer tube collars on these bicycles and are replacing them with a new, improved collar which, together with an adjustment to the torque setting, will significantly improve the collar’s resistance to stress corrosion cracking. We have reported the matter to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and are working closely with them on a press release announcing the recall shortly. Please stop riding your bicycle immediately and visit your local Authorized Specialized Retailer to have a new steerer tube collar installed, at no cost to you. We wish to apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your patience.
Thank you for riding Specialized.

The industry seems to have serious problems with design/quality control these days. It's not isolated to any one manufacturer. Specialized with this steerer issue. Salsa with the Warbird forks. Several manufacturers with their "integrated" hidden seatpost clamps. SRAM's derailleur issues. What's feeding into this? Are they all responding to pressure to innovate on the cheap and skip the needed testing?

Who knows but people tend to rag on Shimano for taking forever to come with stuff even though their end product tends to be bomb proof. Look at XTR 12-speed. SRAM die hards are all welcome to 5 years ago but once the XTR 12 trickles down to SLX it will end up being more refined and bombproof than NX eagle.

I just told my GM that his brand new(less than a week old) $4200 Di2 Ultegra Roubiax needs to head back to the shop so he doesnt suddenly lose control of steering while riding. The disbelief was somewhat funny.

That's part of the issue with bicycles, too. If you have these sorts of problems with the latest phone or computer or launch vehicle, you can almost understand. It's cutting edge stuff and the cutting edge innovations have a tangible, visible impact on performance. But bicycle technology isn't rocket science. Bicycles are supposed to be a mature technology, to say the least. They could and should last forever in the eyes of most buyers. None of these "innovations" is making a bicycle even 1 mph faster than it would otherwise be. And ANY of these manufacturers could, if they wanted to, build a completely reliable bicycle that's functionally just as good -- or very nearly as good -- as the most innovative, highest tech, most "integrated" bike anyone builds.
So when the latest product differentiation gimmick craps out -- perhaps injuring the rider -- people get cranky. It didn't have to happen!

Just picked up my 2018 Diverge from the LBS after having the Recall service completed fast turn in a day. Now if only the rain storms would end I can go ride again!
