2018/9 CaadX feedback

Does anyone have any real world experience with the new CaadX's? I'm specifically looking for two things:

How does it ride?
Max tire width?

Last year I asked Cannondale about max tire width and was told 700x37. I asked and they didn't state a number for 650b, but WTB has it on their list of frames that are "road plus compatible".

Yeah, but at least there isn't anything proprietary on this one. Now THAT would be classic Cannondale. Considering I'm currently on QR front and rear I don't care too much.

Now that's cool, I hadn't thought about that. I don't see how a 47mm tire would fit in this frame after taking a closer look at how the chainstays are formed but idk..

Other than aesthetics, there is no need for the TA rear since the disc caliper is captive

I love my 2018 Ultegra Caadx. I have changed out the wheels and various other parts in my attempt to get it sub 20 lbs. but with 38 mm (measuring an actual 40 mm) GravelKings I cant seem to get there. It is light enough and Cannondale continues to do amazing things with aluminum making the frame extremely comfortable. A slacker head tube makes it work on gravel as well as cx. Enjoy!

Interesting. Which wheels and parts did you put on in the sub-20lbs attempt?

Hunt carbon 30 gravel wheels, FSA SLK Light Crankset, fizik antares saddle, 3T stem and seatpost and Ultegra Ice Tech rotors.

Dang, that's a valiant effort to not make sub-20lbs. The alloy steerer carbon blade fork is definitely not helping.

On the fork, the disc caliper is mounted on the back of the fork, which when the brake is applied clamps down on the rotor and based on the physics of the torque has a tendancy to want to pull the wheel out of the dropout if its a QR. This has been known to happen with MTBs before going to thru axle if the QR wasn't suffciently tight or the lawyer lips weren't big enough. On the rear the caliper is mount such that the torque from braking pushes the axle into the dropout so there won't be any alignment issues

gotcha- not sure. Interesting though.
Pretty sure the next time I do a big drop or big jump on my gravel bike, it'll be the first, so this isnt something I've thought of much...or ever.

Haven't had the issue on my QR CAADX or SuperX with forward facing dropouts while bunny hopping or mild single track drops. Think its more of an old issue with MTBs
