New bike day, Salsa style

Sold my old Kona Jake, so I bought a leftover Cutthroat for a steal.

What's it like riding with the bars 5" over the saddle. Looks like it would be hard to shift and brake?

The drops are an inch below the saddle. It’s very comfortable.

What a beautiful bike! Congratulations!

Congratulations. After a couple rides, how is it working out? Seems like the geometry between Jake and Cutthroat is quite different.
I've been thinking about one. Confused about sizing. The salsa page recommends a 56 for me, which feels comfortable riding, but standover hight makes me nervous if I have to bail quickly.

Welcome to every Cutthroat rider's issue. They're huge bikes, there's no way around it.

It’s super comfortable. I’ve ridden just over 100 miles now, mostly on gravel or two track dirt. The best way to describe this bike is a mountain bike with a rigid fork and drop bars.
as far as sizing, this is a 2019 model, which was sized as (S, M, L). I’m 5’8” and I have a medium. It feels small because of the relatively upright cockpit, but the standover height leaves no room for error.

Congrats, awesome ride! I wish I could've test rode one of those, it looks almost exactly like my xc hard tail. You even found a close out deal? Nice.

I have been researching the Cutthroat for a couple months, ever since my fiancee asked for an off-pavement bike that wouldn't be a compromise. So we can, you know, do bikepacking and Adventure riding and stuff. I have looked at lots of gravel and related bikes, but they are seemingly lacking in tire clearance, rack attachment capabilities, or are simply way too heavy. Besides, she prefers drop bars to flat bars. Now if I can just find a dealer with one or two in stock, except that we can't go check them out, due to the virus. I guess we're not in a rush.

I've always like these but I've never been to find one on clearance or even decent sale.

Very nice looking bike! How does it ride on pavement? I'm looking for an all purpose bike and considering the Cutthroat vs Warbird. I like the option of getting the bars up on the Cutthroat and not sure if the Warbird has as much flexibility. I also wish the Cutthroat had a smaller wheel option. Any idea on the weight of your bike?

it rides good on pavement, albeit slower. I think the rolling resistance of the knobbies are the issue. My medium weighs 22.31 lbs with 2 bottle cages and tubeless set up tires.
