What's the deal with the Grail/Grizl geometry?
I've been looking closely at gravel bike geometries. They all seem to be variations on a theme - less reach, more stack, slacker head tube angle, longer wheelbase, etc compared to their road bike counterparts. Except the Canyon offerings are both just as long and with less stack than my CAAD12 road bike. It looks to me to be an aggressive road bike with a slack head tube angle and a slanted toptube. Yet none of the reviews I've read seem to key in on this and one would get the feeling that it fits like any other gravel bike. Am I missing something? Am I over-rotating on these geometry numbers?
Their sizing is also weird. At 5'10" I'm in the 54/56cm range on most road/gravel bikes (or M/L). But in Canyon I'm an S. Not sure what the deal is there but it's a bit alarming for me to be ordering a small especially since I can't test ride one beforehand.

I'm your size. I ordered a M and S, and sent the M back. Didn't cost me anything extra to try out two bikes, so that was kinda cool.

When I was shopping for an Inflite a few years ago I was running into the same problem. I seemed to fall right between a S and M on their size charts.
I had planned to buy the S, knowing that I might need to send it back if it didn't work, but their inventory was so screwed up at that time that I couldn't ever get a bike.

In Canada the bikes from Canyon come from a German warehouse and incur a 13% duty (on top of the usual 13% sales tax when it arrives). I think the duties can be recouped in the event of a return, but it would be a pain in the backside. Regardless I think the additional 13% is killing the value prop for me so the Canyon is no longer attractive enough in price to make me get over any geometry concerns.

That’s an understatment. Availability constantly gets pushed back, was hoping for a blue Endurance Di2 but after waiting months it simply disappeared from the website. One bike writeup says Fulcrum wheels but specs says DT Swiss. Sizing is crazy.

I haven't looked at their website lately to scout availability, but I did just see an email that they are running $800 off discount on Ultimate and Endurace? I'm sure restrictions apply.

I spent 6+ months waiting for a Grilz 7 and gave up. I ride size large mountain bikes and a 57 cm road bike so being told I am size med borderline small at 5' 11" I walked and bought a Litespeed. Canyon needs to get their act together. Some bikes say DT Swiss in the description but say Fulcrum wheels in the specs. Call and you get different replies. Point this out to them but nothing changes. Hell of a way to run a business.

huffman and McGuillicuddy issues can likely be easily managed by talking to someone. Canyon has the best customer service I've ever run across. But I have to pick up the phone and talk to someone. Don't want to pay duty on two bikes and return one? Ask them to not charge you for the duty. You might be surprised at the answer.
