I知 building wheels NSH
I知 building a wheel for my bike. It痴 kinda hard for me to find what I知 looking for as a hoop. I知 looking to build a 36 spoke wheel. Starting with a sturmey archer 5 speed igh. My intended use for these wheels is 50/50 road and gravel. The tire size that I intend to use is 700c 32mm continental all seasons for road and as wide as I can get away with for my set of gravel tires also 700c. Changing tires is a breeze for me. FYI.
what brands should I look into for finding a hoop. That is strong enough to take over the duties of my 29er wheels and still accept the 36 hole igh.

As for the hub, be gentle with it. It takes a bit of time to get the hub really dialed in and if that shifter cable is not perfect, you can get slipping, then your pawls and teeth can start chipping. Once you have metal floating around in that grease, the hub won't want to play nice ever. Do yourself a favor and get some really good shifter housing and a good cable, the Sturmey cables leave a bit to be desired with this hub that needs perfect shifts. When you shift, ease up on torque into the pedals and let the hub shift, then increase your force. On cold days, the hub can be sluggish once you're out riding for a while.
I got my Sturmey RXL-RD5 cheap, and used it on a folding commuter bike, so it isn't really abused and hasn't seen nasty weather yet. The only reason I got the hub was because of the drum brake, otherwise I'd have gone with a Nexus or Alfine 8.

Sweet I値l check those out. I have to do the same type of soft peddling to get my nexus i3 to shift smoothly. The Alphine8 is better I have one too. I知 settling on on a i5 bc I want to keep weight down. Also I can稚 afford another alphine8 build.

Velocity has 36 hole rims. I'm sure there are others. I would seek counsel from an lbs.

Thanks. I was looking for velocity wheels and found h plus son has options as well. I was reading some more. Enough to make me not want to mess with sa痴 5spd. I like the Alphine8. I have mine in some strong double wall sturmey archer hoops. If I was to get a hold of another one. Just so I don稚 make another thread. I値l just ask here.
if I was going to use the bulky Alphine8 igh. What category of bike would you suggest I get my hoop for? Road, gravel, touring or other.
