Jake the Snake or Redline Conquest Pro?
Honed my selection down to one of these two bikes. While I will not be competing, I am looking for a good all-around bike, quick on pavement, more than happy on trails and the occasional gravel. Any insight would be greatly appreciated...

Well i've only riden the Jake the Snake. So cant give a comparasin of the two.
But, nothing is as bright as the day glow orange 2006 jake the Snake

Just my 2cents... I just got a 2006 trek x01 and it rides awesome. Very fast on the street (comfortable too) and just as tough on the trails. Extremely versatile. I couldn't find a JTS in my area to test ride, but I did ride Cannondale's cyclocross bike too and found it very uncomfortable to ride on the street... definitely geared more towards off road.

Right now im seeing it in my office. I bought one, it sits in front of my desk
I bought not for racing, but fopr commuting. It now has rack, panniers, fenders, pump, water bottles, lights, etc.

Theres the preview page. Color isnt quite right in the pic, its day glow orange, brighter than the pic. I love it
I did do some changes though. Swapped out cassette for an 11-32. Im old, with tired knees and high hills on way to work. Also put on a fizik Alliente saddle and specialized nimbus armadillos in 700-28 size.

i'll second that vote for the Trek XO-1. Great bike for all around. I've had mine for a couple months and put about 100 miles a week on it.
The Kona get fantastic reviews as well.
I'd suggest finding local shops that have both - and riding them. Pick what you like best. Neither will be a bad bike.
And if you don't have one or the other locally - go with what you can get. Again - neither bike will be a disappointment.

Does the frame have frame lugs for a rack, or are you using a seatpost mounted rack?

It has braze ons for a rack. I used one of the Trek Interchange ones. Fits fantastic. And no heel hitting, with just standard pannier mounting. Didnt have to do any adjusting to make the bag sit back farther.
Was easy to add full fenders front and back, and a rear rack. Although the rear rack had to use the same mount at the droputs as the fenders, but so did my old hybrid.
These the only pics i have of it, 2 pre and 1 post fenders/rack.
I've since swapped out the rear cassette to an 11-32 (i live on a mtn), swapped tires to specialized armadillos, added lights and blinkies. I'll see if i can get some cleaner pics tomorrow.

A buddy just went back and forth between the JtS and the Conquest pro...for the $$ the Jake is better equipped...The Conquest (non Pro) retails for about the same $$ the JtS does around here and is a Tiagra mix. The Pro is a sweet Setup but for another $300 or so? I just didn't see it.

My frame prior to the Redlines was an all top tube routed Gitane frame, which requires a pulley. The pulley broke loose during one of my races, meaning small ring for the rest of the race. Not a huge thing in the end, but--just another thing to go wrong.

rode the 06 JTS last weekend and it is incredibly sweet. but YOU need to be comfortable on it. IMO, looks wise the JTS is insanely cool.

Well Jarery, joined the team of day-glow orange Jake the Snake owners. Saw a deal I couldn't pass up and i jumped on it. I have already affectionately named her "Deer Season." Love the bike so far...

After a couple of weeks i can report that the JTS is awesome. I love the ride. It even took its first fall (unfortunately not out on the trail). A car cut me off and I had the choice of becoming a hatchback ornament or sliding out. I picked the latter. A little bit of skin and a couple of paint chips, but she's still a beaut! Her it is. Surprise, it looks a lot like Jarerys...
