Converting Road to CycloCross
 

I currently own two road bikes, one aluminum and one Carbon.. I hardly ride the aluminum GT anymore, so I'm thinking of converting it to a Cyclocross.. If I'm correct, I will have to replace the frame and fork, the large chainring in front to convert it from 52 to 48. Most likely replace my reare cassette which si 12-25 for a 13-26, and then replace the brakes and get new tires. I figure I'll sell the frame fork and brakes and use that money, which should conver atleast part of the cost.

Am I on the correct path, I figure I will keep the old cassette for my other road bike. Everything else I figure i can move over..

You are certainly on the right path. If you are looking for an economical and killer frameset check out the K2 Enemy. The full bike retails for $950 but it is also available as a frameset. It has canti and disc mounts, upper cable routing or downtube routing and has held up to my race season well this year. As far as brakes go I would recommend some radius cantilevers or discs if you can pull the trigger on those. My ride has discs and in the mucky cross season they come in handy. Looks like a nice frameset, found it listed for $299 so not a bad deal either. Looks like I would need the XS frame, sounds bad hahahaa I'm not that short. My current road bike is 52cm, so the 17.9" comes out to almost 51cm which is about correct, if I'm adjusting size correctly for a Cyclocross bike.

I too ride a 52 cm road bike and I am riding the xsmall frameset. It is the smalles they make and equates to about a 51 to 51 1/2. Fit is good and I have been pleased with it. Generally you want a little more room to move over the top tube of a cross bike but plenty of room to stick your arm through the frame for shouldering purposes.
