9 or 10 Speed?
I've currently deciding if I want to upgrape to 10 speed and was wondering if anyone has had any problems with 10's clogging up in muddy conditions more than 9's?

Personally if you are going to race I wouldn't upgrade till you needed to. Cross is to hard on stuff especially if you have muddy races.

I think 10 speed is junk, it check out velonews: https://www.velonews.com/tech/report/...s/10011.0.html
and should not be considered for cross! on top of this, the chains cost 40 bucks, they wear out faster and the cassettes cost over 100 bucks.

I'm building up my cross bike with ultegra 9. It's perfectly competative, plus right now as all the roadies are upgrading they're selling their used stuff cheap. I got my full group with hubs for under $500.

Heh. I'm running the old Suntour 6.
Didn't a wise man once say that eight is enough?

Ultegra Cassettes are like $60....
Nothing wrong with running 9 speed.... but lots of people run 10 with no problems.

Heres my opinion If you have a group of friends or your team and a majority of them use 10 speed it would be a good idea to switch because then you can use one of their wheels if you get a flat, if the rest is 9 speed then I would stick to 9 speed. I also thought of this but it seemed easy I run a 1 by 9 and all I would need to do to turn it 10 speed is replace the cassette and put a 10 speed barcon on because my R.D. is capable of going 10 speed so bingo 10 speed on a budget.
hope this helps
