Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

XERO Lite XR-1 for female cross rider??

My fiance just got a redline conquest to build up as a cross bike. She has a wheelset from an older road bike that she was planning on using as a temp solution, but wants to get something lighter and aero (for mud). The current wheels are about 2000 grams for the set... and while they are sturdy... that is just unacceptable as far as weight goes for racing. She can get a set of XERO Lite XR-1 for stupid cheap from the LBS. ($180) They are 30mm deep and weigh in at about 1550 grams. They seem like a bargin. However, they are only 16 spokes in the front and 20 in the rear. Anyone think they'll just taco on a course? She's only 115 lbs.... so she generally doesn't have much problem with breaking stuff

For what's it's worth, my wife has been riding that wheelset on the road for over a year and she's um don't tell her...180. The only time I've had to touch the wheels was after she road over a guy who crashed in front of her. But just a quick true job and fine ever since.
