best rim for SS CX bike?
I'm looking to build up a new set of wheels, and this will go on my SS cyclocross. All the high end production wheelsets are for 10 speed rear hubs, so I want to build a set of really good wheels to match Phil Wood SS rear hub.
What are some good alum. rims I should be considering besides Aeroheads? We're talking a rim that matches the quality and lightness of the Mavic ES or Fulcrum R1.

I'm afraid Open Pros may be a little delicate for CX use... leaning on a set of bright silver Deep Vs or Delgados.

Well, if you are going with Phil hubs you aren't worried about weight. Go for the deep V's. I personally don't think you need that tough of a rim for CX that's what the larger tire is for. I'll take a lighter rim that is on a well built wheel any day.

I have a set of Open Pro CD Ceramics I plan on building up. 32/32 and I'm 145# ... still debating whether I'm going to use a WI freewheel or go with a cassette hub.

The Deep V's are solid, but pretty heavy. I would say you're safe with any standard spoke Mavic rim. The SL and ES models use different spokes that probably wont work with your hubs. If you want deep section, try and scrounge up a pair of American Classic 420 rims on eBay. Unless you plan on abusing your bike way beyond just normal race stuff you shouldn't worry too much about breaking rims.

Initially, I want to use clinchers to train and get a feel for the races before I invest in tubulars (but yes, agreed, if racing is something I really enjoy, I'd definitely consider a good set of tubulars).
