I'm considering adding cyclocross scoot to my stable. I would use this bike on casual mountain bike type terrain, and rides that include some pavement and dirt, as well as using it as an "all season" bike. I like the idea of Cannondale's headshock as I'm planning on riding some relatively technical stuff. I currently own a mountain bike and a road bike. Soooo.....

-EBAY SCOOT: What do you think of this bike? The price?

-SIZE: I ride a medium Klein Attitude and a 54cm Trek 5200. This Cannondale is a 52cm, but the description states that it rides like a 56cm. Any thoughts regarding sizing?

-Do you think I'm overestimating the ability of a cyclocross bike regarding mountain bike terrain??

You are overestimating the abilit of this bike. You will destroy it.

Overestimating because it's a cross bike, or because of the particular model?

Not the model, just the use in general, they are great for hard packed dirt paths and rough ground, unless you like replacing parts i would stay away from it.

Hmmmm, perhaps I'll have to find another way to justify it then! Maybe I can convince myself that this will be my "all season" ride? Anywho, providing that I can lie to myself, and then believe the lie, does anyone have any advice on the price and the size?

The Cannondale is actually a pretty good, tough bike. Most cyclocross bikes can handle most XC MTB courses realetively well, but you wouldn't want to ue one on a downhill course.

The Headshock gives you as much travel as a first or second-generation MTB fork (Rock Shoxz Mag 21, Mantou II) and it won't giver you a plush ride, but it will help keep you tracking on the front.

My own problem with the Headshock is that it's really unnecessary for any cyclocross course that I've ever raced on, and adds a lot of unnecessary portage weight to the bike.

Cannondale makes an excellent cross bike. I've raced one for 3 years and had it as a pit bike for 1 year. I agree with peloton about the headshock for cross racing: Its not necessary. Also, the new cannondale forks are ugly. I have no doubt that it works well, they are just not elegant like an empella fork or an alpha q fork. Its like they need to go on a diet. They look like sausages. And they have this useless square thing at the crown that may be for a fender mount or a flikstand or something.

Oh one more thing. They are sized small so a 52 really rides more like a 54 road frame. Verify this by checking the top tube length at their website. I think its a 54 top tube on the 52 frame.

sweet ride! buy it! That is a cool bike and tuff enuff for all your duties described. You can bomb ST with that bike no problem. For racing, it would be an advantage on a really rough course but you didn't mention racing so... it's a great all-around bike perfect for what you want. If it's a good deal, snap it up!

Hmmm, well the current bid is $800, and I think I could get if for very close to that. The seller claims less than 2k miles on the bike.

I know in 2001 it went for about $1700 retail for a 105/tiagra equipped bike.

800 sounds good for the bike- assuming it is in good shape. 1/2 off, can't beat that.

I can get this bike for around 1400.00 new from a bike shop the never sold last years model. 800.00 is a good deal. Stand over height for this model is 32.2 inches or 81.7 cm. I was looking at that bike but its way to small for me.
