CX bike gearing

It looks like I will have a 38/46T chainring setup. What is a recommended
gearing for the cassette?

Thanks.

I run a 12/25 campy 10 with my 38/46.

Thanks.

I probably will be commuting, too. And, might go with a 9 speed.

I run 38/48 up front and am running 9 speed on my Major Jake. I often take it offroad on some SERIOUS climbing routes. For that, I run a common 11-32 MTB cassette. Amazingly, I can do this with my short cage ultegra rear der. For commuting, road riding and cross racing, I run a 12-26 out back.

try a 1x9 with 11-32 cassette and 42 t chain ring ?

I have a 46/36 with a 12-25 10spd SRAM setup. It gives me from ~38 gear inches to just over 100, which works pretty well for my commute.

48/38 with a 12/25 rear. 9-speed Campy/Shimano mishmash. haven't found anywhere i can't go yet.

but it's real flat here.

I have a 46/34 with 12/26 on my road wheels and 11/32 on my trail wheels.

I run a 46/38 and 12-27 10sp in the back. If I can't ride a hill with this, then I should be running.

M_S 04-23-08 01:22 PM

48/38 with 11-25 The 48 is too high for most off-road use, so once i'm on the dirt I basically run it as 1 x 9. I'm thinking of going with an 11-30 cassette if I can find one, or an 11-32. I have 9 speed, so I'll just buy the cassette and see if my deailleur will shift it. If it doesn't I'll pick up an XT or something. The 11-25 would go back on for road and 'cross racing.

48/39, 11-34. XT mid-cage rear, Dura-Ace front, Dura-Ace bar ends. Works great.

1 x9 42 frt 11-32 rear
